Just recently my 1611UD has started to skip/freeze when playing both seasons 1 & 2 of House Of Cards. Only certain episodes that is. Some play all the way through and others start to skip/freeze at random times. I just placed another blu-ray in there to test it out and there hasn't been any skipping or freezing.

I originally thought that it was the player, but that doesn't seem to be true.

Could multiple discs be screwed up in both seasons? That would seem odd.

My second issue is that my player will only bitstream DD to my Onkyo TX-NR636. Any DTS encoded content, the 1611UD decodes it and sends it as PCM to my AVR. I have my BDP set to bitstream over HDMI.

Does anybody have a better explanation for these issues? Thank you.

Your issues make no sense.

But...unless somebody else has that player and AVR(well, maybe not that AVR), these can't be duplicated.

Well...that's what I was hoping for. That somebody else had this player.

So...it's not that my issues don't make sense. You specifically just can't help me.

Your only trouble shoot is a 2nd player.

If the same discs skip in both...

Regardings settings.

It makes zero sense that it has to decode DTS to send it PCM. Design flaw there and you'd hear everybody with that player bitching about it. Or, you have a setting wrong.

Does your player have DTS re-encode, and you have that set as "on"?

I've checked all my settings on the player. I'll check again on my AVR.

The only option on the player is HDMI and Dig Coax. You have the option to set bitstream or PCM for both. I got it set to bitstream over HDMI.

I don't see why it would decode DTS itself when set to bitstream, but the player sends DD to the AVR to decode no problem.

Read the manual. Doesn't mention DTS re-encode. That manual does suck. It is like the person referencing pages and the person writing, were two different people.

Downmix is off?

If so...

Something is defective. I'd start with a new HDMI cable, since it is the cheapest/easiest.

Pick up a 2nd cheap BD player from Target/Best Buy/Wal-Mart that is open box.

Open box, cause you aren't keeping it. Just using it for a day or two, then returning it.

I don't have an option to turn off Downmix. It only gives me the options 48kHz, 96kHz, and 192kHz. Those are my only options.

let me re-download and re-read your owner's manual.

Could have sworn downmix was how you included SAP into the audio, like on every other DVD and BD player ever made.

Figured out the issue. There was a "Mix Audio Output" option that is only able to be toggled on or off via the original remote. The player must've been re-encoding so it could mix it's own audio to be output by the AVR. I changed it to "HD Audio Output" and now I get DTS and DD on the front panel of my receiver.

Funny thing, my player is still showing what codec is being outputted via my receiver though. At least I've found the issue. Thanks for the help.
