Premieres tonight, at 10/9 Central:

Putting Danny DeVito in space would be one hell of a prank to play on the interstellar community, the people of Earth, and DeVito himself.

Anybody got Elon Musk's telephone number? He seems to fund crazy shit pretty regularly for other-than-profit reasons.

I've got to say, while not as good as the show in its prime, the premiere was still funnier than any episode last season. Optimistic start to the new season.

"...Granted, it's not a particularly remarkable garment -- from the J. Crew 2012 collection. Furthermore, if she were standing, you'd notice she's got no panty-line, giving me about five extra seconds to enter her swiftly before she realizes I am not the answer to her problems."

"Her blouse is covered in cigarette-burns. And I imagine beneath that blouse, you'll find copious amounts of road-rash, probably sustained in some sort of off-roading accident. Which would also explain her limp -- although I expect they're unrelated. Either way, she's North Dakota trash through-and-through, and far below a gentleman such as myself."

Dennis is The fucking Mentalist when it comes to being a creepy rapist. That whole analysis-sequence was breathtakingly Cumberbatch-worthy.

Dennis, this week, with total sincerity:

"You cannot 'sort out' somebody who kills and eats their entire family!"

And good God, Dennis's whole monologue in the psychiatrist's office was absolutely terrifying. Loved seeing him get diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder in this episode, and basically shrug it off ("You haven't thought about the smell, YOU BITCH!!").

I look forward to the series finale, "Dennis Murders the Gang."

Strangely my DVR didn't record last night's episode. Upon further research it appears the guide (Directv) had the episode marked as originally airing 1/28/2014 which would make my DVR assume it was a repeat, which I have it set to not record.

In any event, there is another airing tonight which I had to manually set to record because it was still marked with the same original air date of 2014.

So far this season has been a real creative resurgance after the previous season's rather weak sauce. I always figured they'd stunt cast Psycho Pete if we ever met him, and I'm so glad they didn't.

I had the same problem with Time Warner Cable. My guess is that somebody made a typo when they submitted the listing.

Tour de Force by Charlie tonight. I couldn't help thinking they were trying for a "Birdman" type thing in this episode.

No no, it was totally a Birdman homage. I didn't pick up on it for most of the episode, and then some loud snare riff made me realize that the episode was one long shot with a drumming soundtrack.

I read online yesterday that the Birdman-comparison was actually entirely coincidental, as they filmed this episode in early 2014, many months before the movie was even released.

There was also a mention of them being inspired by the continuous master-shot in True Detective...which makes the, "Alright, alright, alright" a bit more apropos:

Last night reminded me of a demented Frasier episode, but instead of juggling guests and plots at a dinner-party, it's covering up glory holes and scamming credit card companies.

"Frank, you gotta take down the 'Speak American' sign before the inspector gets here."

"Are you sure? Maybe he's a racist, too."

It makes sense considering the lead time to shoot the episode, but there are so many dead on similarities to Birdman that I assumed it had to be homage. It's crazy they developed in parallel like that, right down to the drums.

A series classic. Doing the health inspection in one continuous take was a thing of beauty. Between bringing back one of the early season directors (Matt Shakman) and an episode written by the core three of Charlie, Glenn & Rob things were looking up, but that really knocked it out of the park.

So far this season has been a big improvement over season 9.

"That's crazy -- black people don't do stuff that's not cool."

Can Mac wearing a mesh tank-top ever be wrong? Absolutely loved the whole terrifying, Frank Grimes-esque take on what happens if you put the things The Gang actually does in the real world.

"All right, guys, these are TERRIBLE answers. Now, I would have said, 'The crust on a crème brûlée burning the top of your mouth,' but I'm thinking like a commoner now, and I really do think that the right answer is, 'Clowns'."

"...I feel like it could be 'Nightman'."

I kind of felt there was a missed opportunity at the end. It was obvious that Dennis was going to choke in the fast money round. I wished they would have found a way for Charlie to be up there for Fast Money. It would have been great to hear his responses and the irony is that Charlie would have just eeked out the 5 points they needed to win.

Yeah, I did quite like that they left the joke unspoken that Frank was only five points from victory, and that sending Charlie up to get just one point per question would've probably actually worked. And no one does a slow burn leading to a full blow-up better than Key. Was sure he'd go full Luther by the end of the episode.

DeVito's facial expressions were incredible. I usually rewatch the episodes in part just so I can pay attention to whatever weird shit Frank is doing in the background of every scene. It's always something. I can't believe how enthusiastic DeVito still is about making this horrid little trollman as weird as possible at all points after nine years.

I loved Charlie's logic on why we don't eat dragons: "They usually eat gold or treasure," and, "They're more of a meal for kings; I'm more of a common man."

I could picture Charlie responding to "name something you put sugar in" with "cat food"

"There could be a Goonies situation down there!"

I would love to see these characters on this adventure. That would be a great episode: "The Gang's Goonies Situation."

Wow, Dennis is unquestionably a psychopath. His catfishing was all sorts of fucked up. And Chekhov's bucket of blood! It may have taken days, but we sure got a payoff. DeVito's commitment to playing Frank was, as ever, a wonder to behold.

Mac owned this entire episode. His blatant and oblivious explaining of "playing both sides" was funny every single time. Plus his self-chokeout. Good work all around. Dennis will always be the darkest and most devious leader. Dee will always try to throw her horrible accents into her plans. Charlie is just in his own world of mutants, Trundle-signatures, and blood buckets.

Finally, Frank just going off the deep end (mostly to blood loss) was great, as well. This show can keep going, and only get better.
