Heard this is a pretty damn scary movie. Reviews have been

very positive to that effect. Anyone wish to comment?

This was the best film of last year for me - I thought Boyhood would be top but I saw this in the latter half of the year. Two things though

1. The marketing is all wrong in a way though I understand why they have gone this route, but it is not just a horror film - in fact while it is creepy and tense in places, I never thought it was out and out horror. The design of the Babadook however is brilliant.

2. This is best seen knowing as little as possible about it which is why Im being vague, but I will say the value here is in what the film is trying to say and the journey it takes the central character. The two central performances are fantastic.

Simon,

I have to respectfully disagree.

Thought the performances were great, this film fell entirely flat for me.

In fact, my brother saw it first and recommended that I skip it.

...and this comes from two people that LOVED The Conjuring, which we

both thought was the scariest film in years.

I will say I do think our opinions are in the minority, as The Babadook seems

to be getting rave reviews everywhere for its ability to scare.

IFC Midnight and Scream Factory Present the Critically
Acclaimed Horror Phenomenon
THE BABADOOK
Special Edition Blu-ray, Standard Blu-ray and DVD Available
Everywhere April 14th, 2015 from Scream Factory

If it’s in a word, or it’s in a look, you can’t get rid of The Babadook. This chillingly prophetic refrain haunts the worldwide sleeper hit The Babdook, the engrossingly eerie tale of a widowed mother and her troubled young son. On April 14th, 2015, this critically acclaimed psychological thriller makes its Blu-ray and DVD debut from Scream Factory, in partnership with IFC Midnight. The Special Edition Blu-ray, housed in a striking limited run pop-up package, comes loaded with bonus features, including theatrical trailers and an in-depth look behind-the-scenes of the making of The Babadook with cast and crew interviews (Creating The Book with illustrator Alex Juhasz, A Tour of the House Set, The Stunts: Jumping the stairs, Special Effects: The Stabbing Scene); as well as deleted scenes and director Jennifer Kent’s award-winning short film MONSTER.
The standard Blu-ray and DVD editions include the theatrical trailers and a look behind-the-scenes of the making of The Babadook with cast and crew interviews (Creating The Book with illustrator Alex Juhasz, A Tour of the House Set, The Stunts: Jumping the stairs, Special Effects: The Stabbing Scene). Fans can pre-order their copies by visiting ShoutFactory.com.
Named one of the Top Ten Films of 2014 by the New York Time’s A.O Scott, New York Magazine’s David Edelstein, and Slate’s Dana Stevens, The Babadook is one of the most celebrated genre films in recent history. Winner of three 2015 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards, including Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay and Best Direction, The Babadook has earned rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. Star Essie Davis’ captivating performance as the tormented Amelia has won Best Actress at Fantastic Fest, Sitges International Film Festival, and the Toronto After Dark Film Festival; as well as earning Best Actress nominations from across the globe, including San Francisco Film Critics Circle, London Critics Circle, Houston Film Critics Society and the Australian Film Institute. Heralded as deeply heartfelt yet genuinely frightening, The Babadook is a must-own for all fans of genre cinema.

The Babadook Synopsis
Where there is imagination, there is darkness and from within that darkness lurks a being of unfathomable terror…
Amelia (AFI Award winner Essie Davis – The Matrix Revolutions, Girl with a Pearl Earring) is a single mother plagued by the violent death of her husband. When a disturbing storybook called Mister Babadook turns up at her house, she is forced to battle with her son’s deep-seated fear of a monster. Soon she discovers a sinister presence all around her. A chilling tale of unseen and otherworldly horror in the haunting tradition of The Conjuring and The Orphanage, Jennifer Kent’s visceral journey into the heart of fear itself is as terrifying as it is believable.
