Last year was big. A very big year for quality video games especially with certain re-issues on the newer systems, there was almost too much to choose from.
The WiiU surprised me with how many titles I bought, and enjoyed. I think they should get credit for most improved console over the course of a year..EVER!
But there is just one game that justified my purchase of the PS4. Best game of 2014 in my opinion:
Alien Isolation.
It isn't the fact that this games scares me. When I see the Alien nearby I usually know I'm going to die(which happens a lot in this game by the way) but I still jump when it charges me. It is a combination of sound design-Play this with surround sound and you will understand the full meaning of immersion. I'd love to get a pair of those really nice headphones that can do a 7.1 mix, but It might actually be too much for me to take. Level design-another flawless execution. The way the space station is constructed you can tell was well thought, very beautiful graphically, and genuine. It is something to behold. The attention to detail to the original 1979 movie is very impressive. From the original actors doing the voice overs in audio recordings(flight recorder) Nostromo. to the green screen computer monitors, it is pretty awesome.
I label it one of my "forever games" Games I consider keeping in my collection, and replaying many times until I die. It is just that good. I would love to try a playthrough without dying at all, it may be impossible, but damned if I'm not gonna try it.
This game doesn't hold your hand, it is difficult, and if you get frustrated take a break and try again later. That always helps.
So what do you consider the best game of 2014?

Unfortunately, I'm not sure what to add. I was going to say Bioshock Infinity, But that was from 2013. Destiny qualifies, I think, but I didn't start playing until 2015.
