Once a pop culture phenomenon, the now-beleagured series returned last night for its final, abbreviated season. And judging from the overnight numbers, not many people cared.

I thought the first hour was an unfortunate continuation of the less-interesting episodes of the previous season. But when they rounded up the old gang back in Lima for hour 2, I was pleasantly surprised by how much of the old magic returned. The sequence based on A-ha's "Take on Me" was particularly inspired, and the McKinley Tea Party club was hilarious (and this is coming from a Conservative).

I also found the new kids to be more interesting after one show than Marley-Jake-Ryder were after a full season.

Thought I would start this topic in case I'm not the only 'Glee' fan left. :)

I am currently working on the review for the unfortunate season five of Glee, but there is no way I can watch the episodes now more than once (for review; assuming I'll be reviewing this final season after it's completed). What was once my favorite show now irritates the crap out of me in a myriad of ways. So, all I'm doing for these season six shows is reading the recaps of the episodes on another site.

But I'm not surprised about your comments with the music. That has never been the show's problem and always its greatest strength. When the numbers rev up on the season five episodes, rarely do I not enjoy them at all. Despite all the criticisms I have over the writing of the show's narrative lines, the music is chosen carefully, artfully arranged, superbly staged, and magnificently performed.

Missed most of season five, mainly out of indifference, but thought I'd give the final season a try.

Not terribly impressed, but will watch to see how they end it. Had such incredible magic the first few seasons, but just kind of lost it after a while.

Having missed season five, lots of gaps. What happened to Will's wife? Rachael and Funny Girl apparently bombed? And why do they keep bringing back Becky? Just a freaking bitch, not a good role model for the ADA.

Nice to see the original cast back together, but a lot of the chemistry between characters seems to be gone.

Will's wife gave birth to a son but the actress wasn't around in many episodes because she was a regular on The Millers (since canceled) at the time these Glee episodes were being filmed.

Funny Girl was a big hit, but Rachel got the offer for the TV sitcom and left the show after about two months. That's the show that bombed which drove her away from Hollywood and back to Lima in the premiere.

Someone at Glee thinks Becky's rants are hilarious. She has been this way for three seasons now, and it's HORRIBLE.

And when she first came on the show, in the episode that also introduced Sue's sister, it was such a wonderfully inspired (and inspiring) moment.

I agree, and it was episodes like that which humanized Sue Sylvester and took her out of the realm of a cartoon villain. She can still show some softer sides when dealing with Becky, but it's all irritating now.

As one of the series' most stanch defenders through the years, I must sadly admit that last night's episode was absolutely dreadful - perhaps the worst I've ever watched. The Vocal Adrenaline performance at the end was the only moment that saved it from complete uselessness. With all the extra time they had to prepare for this shortened final season, I can't believe this is the best they could do.

Again, I didn't watch it (I may review the final season DVD set if it's offered), but reading the recap, it sounded very lame, and fewer songs than usual this week, too.

I did miss the lack of songs this week, but what I did like is that they seem to be making fun of themselves. Some of the comments that Sue made about the band. The fact that they could play anything at the drop of the hat and never get credit. The guy who plays the piano's foot fetish. They seem to be taking a tounge in cheek look back at the world they created. Kind of a nice way to wrap stuff up.

And 'Glee' has left the building. I thought it was a fitting finale that did its best to accommodate what has become a gargantuan cast. Yes, it would have been nice to have more Quinn, and to bring back Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenowith, who would have made better use of the screen time than Will's first wife. As one of the few fans who haven't turned against it despite some very poor storytelling choices, I'm glad I took the full journey - no pun intended.

I enjoyed the two episodes.

Loved the Burt/Kurt scene in the first episode. Really felt something when they went into "Don't Stop Believing" - was a fitting way to work Monteith into the episode.

I have not enjoyed some of the frenetic camera movements they've used over the past few years, and it hurt the final number. I wish the camera had slower pans, so we could have seen all the returnees better.

There were some really terrific performances. I have always preferred the smaller cast numbers (solos, duets, trios) over the full-blown numbers, because its more like a singing performance, and not just a background track. Tonight had several strong songs.

Overall, a fine finale.

I expected to be more moved by these two final episodes than I was. Some of the things that have irritated me for years (the Sue Sylvester character, for example) were just as irritating despite the (typical) attempts to occasionally humanize her.

I agree that the cast has gotten far too large for it to be able to adequately service all of them, so the tribute were kind of hit and miss for me.

Pretty good two episodes to close out the series.

I loved that they turned McKinley into a performing arts school.

Haven't seen the final episodes, still on the DVR. Didn't realize it was the end but I do think it has run it's time.

Watched a few episodes and was shocked at how much of the original cast was missing. A lot of ensemble shows can move on with new characters but you can't replace almost everybody and expect success. Totally different genre but look at "Criminal Minds" or other crime dramas that just keep going.

Granted it was a high school so everybody eventually moves on, but the chemistry between characters and their talent also left the show. What was really wonderful faded fast the last year or two.

I gave up on the show around early season 4, but I decided to watch the final two and I have to say based on these two particular episodes, they were pretty good despite laying on the sentiment and bit thickly at times and captured something about what made Season 1 so great, especially the episode set before the pilot.
