Great news! Saw this movie in 70 mm. It was gorgeous. A real sense of the land. Excellent music and sound as well. Thanks for posting this! When is it being released?

I did see it in the sixties, but can't remember much about it, not really my kind of film, but a great choice for an Archive release, & I'm sure it will look & sound superb.

Correct. The 70 prints were pretty spectacular, though. I do hope they've fixed up the color a bit - the DVD was a little pallid.

One of my favorite films. Great news, indeed....and yes this film was shot 35mm "scope" and blown-up to 70mm. It was not shot in 65mm.

Wonderful performances, beautifully photographed, and exquisite direction from Mr. Schlesinger. A perfect choice for Blu!

Especially nice touch to see the featurette added, which was not on the DVD, and has never turned up (at least for me) on television.

Very excited about this release. It is probably being released in conjunction with the 2015 version which is scheduled o to be released in March and will open wide in April of this year. A great start to the new year.
Thanks
Greg

I never knew that...I always thought it was shot in 70mm...seeing it in New York at the Capitol in it's original reserved seat engagement . I can't wait for the blu ray!!!

Finger crossed for RYAN'S DAUGHTER!

Thank you Warner Bros. for this release! Please consider a Blu release of Ryan´s Daughter!

Far from the Madding Crowd was also recently restored in Europe (Studio Canal) and shown at the 2014 London Film Festival.

I'll certainly buy this and here are two minor tales:

I was at The Odeon Marble Arch to see a very small scale, small screen B&W British film and suddenly, to my complete surprise, the huge screen lit up for a 70mm trailer of FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD. I went back as soon as it opened - stunning.

I knew a boom operator whose stories weren't necessarily always believable and he claimed to have been on location for this, standing on a full size studio Fisher Boom, when, for some reason, the brakes were released and he went for a ride down a hill.
