Well the day after Christmas is when my Criterion-made copy of Tootsie arrived in the mail. We had our showing the very next night and in fact Kyrsten wants to run it again on Sunday (after football of course):
Viewed On: Vizio E-Series 70" using Sony BDP-S590 Blu-ray player. (Note the old sound system is still used for this one as I hadn't yet installed the new AVR/Speakers).
I remember seeing this film in theaters upon its release in 1982 and I was not to be disappointed, either then or upon viewing this magnificent Blu-ray release (what, 32 years after theatrical release). First thing that jumps out, the early 1980s feather-based hairstyles, including Dustin Hoffman's feathered "Rick Springfield" hair style.
Oh and I reserved special praise for Teri Garr who earned my respect, admiration and a big crush ever since her Roberta Lincoln role in the Star Trek TOS episode "Assignment Earth". That and Teri's J-Lo Class Ass (or nowadays a Kim Kardashian Klass Keester) never fails to get my heart a goin.
This was also my first real exposure to a Sydney Pollack film and he won my admiration as an actor back in 1982 with this film. I really enjoyed his character as a successful agent and high class gentleman.
Oh did I mention Geena Davis in her first major film. Small role but we defintely got a real eyeful of this beauty in her youth pre-Thelma & Louise.
Overall for me a fantastic Blu-ray purchase I could strongly recommend as a nice addition to your Blu-ray collection.

Technical Aspects: PQ on this release right up there with the usual Criterion standard (and for $29.25 total it better be. Oh I did get a $0.38 Amazon discount, whoopee). It looked great on the 70 from a range of only about 8 feet. A touch of grain noticeable at that range but Criterion definitely did not go big on DNR which most HTF folks find desirable. Sound quality on my ancient Aiwa setup sounded quite nice. Can't wait to hear this on the new sound system but I'd welcome input here from our resident HTF audiophiles.
