"The Theory of Everything"http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2980516A lionizing biopic of Stephen Hawking, from his doctoral student days to publishing of his popular book,"A Brief History of Time". It is an unconventional love story, emphasizing the consequences of his debilitating disease. It touches on his research, but that is not the focus. TTOE draws out the best of every character; while it wholly doesn't ignore character failings, it is a positive, uplifting, triumph over adversity film and everyone is portrayed in the best possible light. And I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I thought it was a solid film, even if it did feel too "clean" in how these characters were depicted, as I can't imagine having to live through Stephen's debilitating medical condition as being all sweetness and light. There had to be plenty of dark days, but the script is fairly upbeat in handling how Stephen and Jane met in college, and then his world-shattering diagnosis, and the ups and downs of their marriage in spite of his condition, which provided the framework where he would produce his most well-known contribution to physics.

I'm not a big fan of Eddie Redmayne, but he did a fine job in the role as Stephen, uncannily channeling all the mannerisms and infectious smile through his face, quite an acting challenge. Felicity Jones as Jane was a luminous revelation, more than up to the task of portraying Jane along side Redmayne's Stephen.

I give it 3 stars or a grade of B.

I enjoyed this film, and so did my wife. I think she liked it even more than me, since the film was much more about interpersonal relationships than about science. Having a good deal of knowledge about Hawking's science, I didn't miss that very much, so I liked the focus on the relational stuff as well.

My wife and I finally saw 'The Theory of Everything' today. It is now my favorite movie for 2014. I'll be rooting for it to win the Best Picture Oscar and, likewise, for Eddie Redmayne to win the Best Actor in a Leading Role statue! I really like 'Boyhood' too, but I'd give the Best Picture statue to this film!

The Booth Bijou gives 'The Theory of Everything' 5 out of 5 stars!

An amiable middlebrow biopic elevated by Redmayne's uncanny performance. I haven't liked Redmayne in his other roles (his Carrot Top looking face is very distracting to me), but he submerges himself into this role and he's my pick for Best Actor.

Sounds about right. As a movie, it's pretty "standard" and doesn't do anything to stand out from the crowd. Redmayne completely transformed himself, though, and managed to be more than just a collection of mannerisms - excellent performance.

The rest was less involving - it's too much about the wife and not Hawking himself, which makes sense since it's based on her book. It's watchable but superficial...

I saw this with my girlfriend a couple weeks back. She loved it. I thought it was good but very flawed and especially the first portion of the film. With that said, the performance by Redmayne was fantastic and the entire time I was just thinking to myself that we really haven't seen an actor transform himself like this since Lon Chaney.

Yeah. I liked the film but it's Redmaynes performance that makes the film. An unconventional love story to say the least elevated by his Oscar winning (I predict) performance.

With the sad recent loss of Johann Johannsson, I'm now listening to his lovely and poignant score for this movie (with the help of Alexa). Good stuff. Sorry he's gone....
