So after a long HD hiatus (two kids 18 months apart will make you forget about anything else), we are in the market to replace our antiquated CRT.

A bit about the criteria:
Room dimensions and seating distance suggest 64" minimum size. (wife won't allow this unless Front projector with retracting screen).
Ambient light is controllable, yet daytime viewing and viewing with recessed ceiling and floor lighting is common.
Cost: Less than $600 (I plan on eventually upgrading to front projection once I can demo the room and start from scratch)

Option A: LG 50LB5900 50" LED with 120 refresh rate.
Option B: Samsung PN51F5300 51" Plasma 600 refresh rate.

Both are within my budgetary constraints and my wife will reluctantly accept a screen this big.

Sell me on one.

Thanks in advance.

I have a 6 yo and a 4.5 yo that will be undoubtedly watching the same channel for long periods of time. Has burn-in become less of an issue?

Burn-in really isn't an issue with newer plasmas. Unless you keep it on a static screen with a stationary image, you shouldn't have any issues. I've had plasmas (Panny) since 2007 and never had a burn-in issue and we watch tons of TV with logos, tickers, etc constantly on-screen. If you want the best picture possible, plasma is the way to go.

Burn in was a major issue with the 1st generations of sets - but not as much since then.

Have had a plasma for several years - with 4 kids in the house - who like to press the pause button and then leave a static image on the screen for a long period of time - and I haven't seen any issues with burn in.

They even have a built in scroll bar feature if you even suspect burn in is occurring - you can run and clear up the issue. I have never had to use it...

Would get the plasma before they are no longer available...

Great! Thank you for the responses. I was leaning towards the Plasma, though was trying to eek out another 4" of screen with a 55" LED around the same price point.
