I'm watching My Fair Lady right now and its definitely HD. It all depends on the source as not all of their films are HD.

Looks about the same as my current Blu-Ray.

It seems very much the same video-wise as the Blu-ray. The sound doesn't have quite the annoying reverb of the Blu-ray, but the TV sound is Dolby Digital.

Also the aspect ratio is 2:35, not 2:20.

When they did the restoration in '94 (and Mr. Harris can correct me if I am wrong) they worked from a 70mm negative without the magnetic stripes which gave the restoration a wider aspect ratio. I saw the TCM broadcast of this film in HD a few weeks ago and it was the same as the blu ray which came out 3 years ago with the fading on either side of the image. Looking forward to seeing the new blu ray from the recent 4K restoration. Last I have heard is that this will be out sometime in February.

Was TCM's airing of "MFL" in native high definition or upconverted standard definition? If the former, then that would be a long overdue development. TCM has been criticized for years over the lack of native HD, and TCM in overseas markets such as France has been airing many films in native HD for some time.

Native HD. Not all titles are HD but I saw Calamity Jane on TCM and it was also in HD.

This isn't about My Fair lady, but it is about watching something in HD on TCM.

Yesterday morning I stumbled on the last ten minutes of The Pirate. I only got to see the last half of Judy's "Love of My Life," the unveiling of Macoco, and "Be a Clown," but for the first time I really saw what The Pirate is supposed to look like since this was obviously an HD transfer. The Technicolor was luscious enough to eat with a spoon, and it put the dim, underwhelming DVD version of the movie not just to shame, but to banishment. I don't think I can ever look at it again. I'll be sure to record The Pirate the next time TCM shows it.

Yes, it is definitely HD. On Friday they showed "Summer Stock". It looked great! Obviously a relatively new HD transfer. Then they showed "Lili", which was obviously from a very old master as it looked pretty crummy. It all depends on the material they get from the studios. On many films it is a great improvement!

I watched part of "David Copperfield" on TCM last night and was pleasantly surprised to see that it was in native HD; the image was noticeably sharper than upconverted SD. Surprising that TCM isn't promoting the availability of native HD, or at the very least indicating in their schedules which programs are in native HD (the schedule on the TCM France website states whether the program is in HD or not). Perhaps they will do so by the time the restored "My Fair Lady" is finally released on Blu-Ray (trying to get back on topic...)?

After a film gets remastered, how long does it usually take before TCM gets a copy of the new master?

Finian's Rainbow looks HD also right now. Oliver! was before it and looked SD up-converted.

FYI, How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying was on today NOT in HD.

On another thread, we were puzzling why TCM isn't trumpeting now having so much content in HD, and I'm guessing it's because they are not able to present a good number of its movies in HD.

I would assume that is because the title belongs to MGM/UA and not Warners, where we have been getting good stuff. I believe Mr Lime earlier had indicated Kino passed on the film for it was not HD ready. But I could be wrong.

On her FB feed, Debbie Reynolds has said that "Unsinkable Molly Brown" was just shown on TCM in HD for the first time. Perhaps a Blu-ray isn't too far away?

It might get picked up by Olive, going by their last bunch of announced titles.
