There should be no pretense that popping The Expendables 3 into your Blu-ray player will make you a better person, teach you a new language or in the most general sense, equate to the art of cinema.

What it is, is a means of spending a very active, noisy, and generally mindless two hours with a cast that might seem unattainable at any price.

Shot with a Red, and finished in 4k, the resultant Blu-ray down-rez is superb.

Sonically, the 7.1 Atmos TrueHD track, allows superb placement of audio, even without the Atmos gear that most everyone will be receiving for Christmas.

The Expendables 3 is a good-natured uber-buddy picture, that's just a lot of fun.

Don't look for art here, just sit back and relax.

Recommended.

There is an audio issue with expendables 3. some players get audio drop out, its because of the dolby atmos, but for streaming. so the oppo 93 has issues when bitstreaming to get dolby atmos. so it would be nice if someone could talk with liongate about this issue?

I really enjoyed the first 2 expendables, but was somewhat disappointed by this one.

The first 2/3rds of the movie I thought it was just terrible, it looked like it was filmed by a first time film student, the sets were very bland, and the effects were pretty bad. There's one green screen scene that is so bad, it looks like a home made you tube green screen. I was ready to turn it off. I figured that was the downfall of having so many 'big' name actors in a move, that all of the budget went to salaries and there was none left over for the actual film.

Then the final battle happened for the last 1/3 of the film and somehow managed to make up for the first 2/3rds and redeem the picture. So that's what they were saving the budget for! Although it completely destroys all boundaries of belief and credibility, it was a hell of a good time. Maybe just excise the first 2/3rds of the movie and just watch the end, and you'll have a great time!

Since Mr. Harris appears to be curious, it looks like German distributor Splendid Film will be providing The Expendables 3 on Blu-ray with Dolby Atmos tracks in both the original English and dubbed German flavors.

I believe this is not only the first German-language Atmos track (and first dubbed language Atmos track) on a Blu-ray, but the first Atmos track on Blu-ray anywhere in the world in something besides (original) English language.

What's better is that it looks like the Germans are selling each cut individually, rather than branching both together, so hopefully, without branching, there should not be any TrueHD audio dropouts on this disc. I experienced several annoying dropouts on the Star Trek: Into Darkness IMAX disc, and I was disappointed to learn that the US version of this film has similar issues.

Same here...I haven't seen any of them yet. But I could see these being "fun" especially on my front projection set-up and 7.1 audio system.

As someone who saw so many 1970s/'80s/'90s action films in their original release, I was stoked for this series but found the first one utterly forgettable. What a disappointment. I went to the second for one reason and one reason only: Van Damme. And I wasn't disappointed. I loved it. (Liam Hemsworth's touching performance added to it.) The 3rd one isn't quite as compelling as the second, in terms of narrative, but I went along for the ride and had a good time, esp. with old hands like Gibson and Ford injecting some gravitas into it and Snipes and Banderas providing the fun. Stallone and Schwarzenegger were both somewhat immobile, face-wise. Too much work done. I like how Gibson and Ford are allowing themselves to age naturally and are still able to, y'know, actually act!

Watched this last night, probably the best audio experience I've had in my home theatre. I have a 9.1 set-up and there was some great use of the upper and rear speakers. The image quality was equally as stunning. The film itself is okay, not as good as the second, but it's still lots of fun for fans of 1980s/early 90s Hollywood action cinema,

I almost bought this BD, but decided to wait for the extended Region A release.
Robert, have you heard talk of a third version? The existing US Blu-ray already contains the theatrical and unrated extended versions of the film...
