Has anyone checked out this service? How well does it work?

I was exploring TCM's website last night and clicked on this and tried to give it a try only to discover that Time Warner is apparently just about the only provider that doesn't have an agreement.

I don't see why they should even have any say, but obviously they do and I'm at a loss for why they seem to be the sole holdout.

Does anyone know the story behind this? I really want to just cut my ties completely with them at this point since it just seems to be nonsense after nonsense, with fees always on the rise while I get no extra value out of it.

I seem to only ever lose when changes are made, like losing MeTV back in September.

I believe however that Watch TCM predates that sale, yet we've never had access when logic would dictate that TWC subscribers would've been among the first that did. Plus, questions on their support forums always just receive the runaround.

For whatever reason, they seem to want to withhold this functionality from us.

FYI - Reported in the news - TWC is America's least popular company. No surprise.

Warner has their own streaming service for classic movies... Warner Classic Instant.

I'd check it out, but Time Warner Cable probably ensured that that one is also blocked.

Just why do they have any say in such matters? I still don't get that, but have came across this problem before such as with the ESPN app on my Xbox 360 years ago. Where as many folks were able to watch full events through it like NASCAR races, I was blocked because I'm a Time Warner Cable subscriber.

Why should a channel with their own content need to require your internet provider's permission before allowing you access? What business is it of TWC's that I wanted to watch a 70 year old movie on the TCM website?

I dont have cable and TCM is literally the only cable channel I would want. With an ordinary DSL connection I don't qualify for any of these channel streaming apps. TCM would pair nicely with Get.TV I'm getting free OTA. I don't understand why I can't just pay TCM $10 or $15 a month directly for access, and provide me with apps for FireTV, Roku, tablets or Xbox. No doubt they would make more money than they do from the typical cable subscription, and cable can keep the rest of their worthless reality garbage. Looks like HBO will be the first to finally provide this option this year, so I'm hopeful TCM will eventually do the same. Until then I do fine with a DVR and GetTV and Warner Archive Instant.
