My sister just moved into a new house that has built in surround sound with jacks on the wall to hook in to. She wants to be able to hook it into her TV but I'm unsure of what route to take to make this work. Images attached of what the wall jacks look like. What kind of receiver, cables, etc will I need to make this work?

Any receiver you want.Although is it marked which 5 you use? I see an F and a B...but nothing on the third one.(All those are are binding posts. They accept bare wire, banana plugs and spades)

I have a possibly dumb question. Do those wires terminate to speakers in the wall/ceiling or do they just go back down the wall to another plate where you have to provide your own speakers?

As mentioned above - you need to get a receiver - and hook the receiver up to the various speaker jacks shown in the picture.

A good place to look - you can get referb receiver here and save some $$:

-You use speaker wire to hook up the receiver to the boxes shown in the picture.

- then depending on how she gets her TV signal - you hook up the receiver to the TV.

- If over the air antenna is used - have to hook up the output from the TV into the receiver using the best available connection. Modern TVs have digital outputs that would need an optical or digital cable to hook up the TV to the receiver. Only use this option if the TV is using a built in tuner and an antenna to watch over the air TV.

- If there is some kind of cable/satellite/tuner box involved - the box hooks into the receiver, then the ouput of the receiver hooks into the TV. It is best if you can use HDMI cables for both the connections from the box to the receiver, and the receiver to the TV. I added a link to the monoprice hdmi cable section - so you don't have to buy expensive cables for this setup
