LABEL:Studio CanalCOUNTRY OF ORIGIN: FranceREGION: B, lockedASPECT RATIO: 1.33:1
TIME: 1:31:31C/BW: B&WSOUND: DTS MonoSUBTITLES: English (optional)BONUS MATERIAL: Last Assault Of the Popular Front (95 minutes, with optional English subs); Scenes censored by the Vichy Government (restored to this Blu-ray); Restoration demo; 18-page booklet.CHAPTERS: 43
Incredible film! Murderer Jean Gabin finds himself trapped in a building while being hunted down, and reflects upon the events that led to his crime. One of the best foreign-language films ever made, an exciting French film noir.
The disc is sharp, contrast is quite high and blacks very deep, sometimes rendering the overall image a bit dark. Some DNR appears to have been applied, but I find it looking excellent. Sound is a serviceable 2.0 mono.
The extras are generous (see above). The 18 page booklet is attached to the case and has French text but lots of photos. The case itself is a beautiful sturdy cardboard open-out affair similar to a U.S. Digibook, with a pleasant glossy sheen.
Worth a blind buy!
