LABEL: Studio CanalCOUNTRY OF ORIGIN: FranceREGION: B, locked.ASPECT RATIO: 1.33:1C/BW: B&WSOUND: 2.0 MonoSUBTITLES: French (Non-removable)BONUS MATERIAL: 16-Page booklet.CHAPTERS: 8
Wonderful performance by Ralph Richardson and direction by Carol Reed, plus a very acceptable transfer, make this a no-brainer.
Trust, betrayal, murder...a lovely plot a lot of suspense...if you're not familiar with this noirish British film, become familiar with it!
The disc is decent. The image is sharp with very good blacks and general contrast, although a bit dark at times. Grain is present and this looks theatrical, although it looks theatrical in an "old print" sort of way, with quite a few white speckles on screen. If you can ignore that, this is splendid.
The one caveat might be the low sound level, which contains a fair amount of noise. But a big plus for the release is the wonderful 16-page booklet. The text is French, but there is a bunch of great photos. That is the only bonus extra.
