I wonder if the remastered version has the enhanced special effects like what has been shown for The Living Legend Parts 1 and 2. I am supportive of an enhanced version so long as the original version is still available in its original form and screen aspect ratio.

I hope they fix a glitch in Gun on the Ice Planet Zero part 1 for the US release. The master from which the transfer was derived on the German set apparently has a couple of scenes in the incorrect order. There is a scene in which Starbuck and Apollo discuss the fact that Starbuck was selected as one of the landing crew, and the next scene has Starbuck rigging the computer so he will be selected for the landing crew. Since this second scene does not seem intended to be a flashback, it appears these 2 scenes are out of sequence.

Wonder if the 16:9 widescreen versions are cropped (from the 4:3 versions), or if they're "open matte" from the original film.

I was getting ready to gripe about the reformatting but hey if they are including both I'm OK with it, But Since I have both on DVd and they are readily available on Streaming, I'll wait for the inevitable Price drop

wasn't the series shot in full screen.
It was, though all television productions at that time were shot with large allowances for overscan. By using the entire image, it should be possible to crop to 16:9 without losing important picture information.

I doubt very much that 16 X 9 would be open matte because the theatrical verison of the pilot is not open matte but cropped.

THE DEFINITIVE COLLECTION is duplicate episodes hence the 27 discs instead of the 8 discs the other Remastered BD edition. I hope this is how I understand it.

ok so color me stupid, first everything I have read today , it defiantly is not 27 disc, not for the price Uni is charging, my biggest complaint in all of this is that the remastered is going to be the one that sales the most to the collector or die hard purest because of OAR, as stated above, when this is finally released
, I have plans Sunday nights at 7:00 pm till 8:00 for the entire run. Oh dear god my childhood is returning, looks like I will finally see what that old Arial couldn't pick up in the original broadcast minus the extra snow in the picture; bet Anne Lockhart, Laurette Spang and Maren Jensen all still smoking hot. hey I was 15 at the time, those three and Erin Gray at one point the hottest women on tv

Okay, perhaps I'm stupid or this is the worst written press release - but do we have two releases?

Release 1: The original untouched series (and 80) and the remastered with sexy new effects. 24 episodes+12 episodes X2 = 72 episodes
Release 2: The series with sexy effects. 24+12 = 36 episodes

The only difference I can see is amount of discs which Amazon states meaning I guess duplicate episodes for Definitive 27 total.

The other Remastered 8 discs and only on widescreen format. The bonus seems the same.

Just that UK had 9 discs

Holy cow, this is awesome! I would not have expected to see Galactica: 1980 on Blu-ray... ever. My wrist computron never predicted this particular outcome.

Finally, in full sparkling 1080p high definition, I can watch the Galactica kids dismantle a television camera, get caught red-handed with it in pieces by a studio staff member, and then quickly reassemble it just before the TV station boss arrives to see what they'd done.

Or witness the finest come-back ever spoken in the history of television in ear-melting DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1: "No, I'm sorry, but we just used our last denomination of currency ourselves."

Honestly, though, I may need to turn G1980 into a drinking game in order to get through it. I may also need to ingest a six-carbon-chain supplement in order to avoid passing out early.

I agree with you Tony I need more details. Germany included the movie cut of the series and the movie Mission Galactica and Conquest of the Earth from the 1980 series. I do not think there is any CGI work here.

Just as long as there aren't any #*&^%$@ double-sided discs this time around. Do it right, Universal!

I put my order in and then canceled and went with the cheaper one. I want the choice to watch sexy new effects as Tony described them. Most fans do not. I would pay the extra bucks to get them and have that choice since this will be the last Galactica I will ever purchase

Perhaps I need to order both until we get more info on this set. The CGI work could be only offered on the 104 bucks one. Makes sense if they did it that way and would follow what most fans want. I wanted major clean up on the show so for that I am happy.

Perhaps they just did CGI on the two part episodes and the movie. The Uk has only 9 discs we get 8 with the cheap down version.

Again as Tony stated it is very confusing to fans on what choice to make.

One thing is clear the set is different from the UK and the German set.

Guess I am not even clear on this. Duplicate and CGI work on the Definitive and just wide screen and good clean up on the Remastered with same bonus content on each. I will wait and see and then cancel one of the orders I made when more info comes out.

Jesus this press release is a fucking mess. I've read it severa times and still have no idea which one The Ultimate Fan should get. Lets try and parse this out:Battlestar Galactica: The Remastered Collection features both pioneering series meticulously reformatted to be optimized for the HDTV viewing experience.Okay, this is the sexed up new effects.Battlestar Galactica: The Definitive Collection also includes both series [meaning Galactica and 80] in 4:3 Full Frame as they were originally televised, plus the theatrical version of the premiere episode "Saga of a Star World" presented in 1.85:1 Widescreen for the ultimate collector. So no mention of sexed up effects. Just the movie in widescreen and the 26+13 episodes.Battlestar Galactica: The Definitive Collection includes:* Battlestar Galactica: The Original Series (Widescreen and Full Frame)* Galactica 1980: The Complete Series (Widescreen and Full Frame)* Battlestar Galactica – The 125-minute theatrical edit of the premiere episode "Saga of a Star World"So the original 26 episodes widescreen and 3x4 - but no mention of Sexed Up Graphics.Battlestar Galactica: The Remastered Collection includes:* Battlestar Galactica: The Original Series (Widescreen)* Galactica 1980: The Complete Series (Widescreen)No movie, no 3x4, no original episodes. So it looks like you need both if you want Vintage and Sexy. . . .
