Going from the Overture (a nice inclusion of the Roadshow music to this release) to the main title of Stanley Kramer's Judgment at Nuremberg, I feared the worst, as that opening salvo across our screens is far from pretty (or original).
Gray and dupey looking, with positive dirt built in -- not a pretty picture.
Then we arrive at production footage and all is well.
One question that may be going through potential viewers minds will be "Is a three hour long drama about the Nuremberg trials both entertaining, as well as worth three hours of my life?"
My feeling is an enthusiastic "yes."
This is one of those special films that fills in holes in the collections of those who attempt to bring together the work of many of their favorite filmmakers and actors.
The list on this one is long. You get to add the following to your collection:
Spencer Tracy
Burt Lancaster
Richard Widmark
Marlene Dietrich
Judy Garland
Maximillion Schell
Montgomery Clift
and
for those fans of Captain Kirk,
William Shatner, as Captain Byers
Beautifully photographed in black & white by Ernest Lazlo, and with a score by Ernest Gold, this is a film that stands the test of time nicely.
As a Blu-ray from MGM via Twilight Time it's an appealing presentation, aside of the main title sequence.
