I was never a huge fan of this film, but I understand its importance and preordered

it nonetheless.

Hope this is a new transfer. The print they air on HDNET has some weird damage (chemical stains?) that effects nearly the entire movie.

Agree. While I find it mildly amusing, I was always surprised that it was nominated for a Best Picture Oscar for 1966. I pre-ordered it nonetheless.

I have only the vaguest memory of seeing this once back in the day. Though it may not be a great one, I'm certainly curious to see it again.

I saw the film in Theatres as a child when my grandmother wanted to go shopping in downtown Birmingham, AL. She through me into the Empire Theatre and went to the Dept Stores. I enjoyed the film and have seen it many times on TV, laserdisc and DVD, but as you never a huge fan. I keep feeling I'm waiting for the punch line and with that cast, the film had the potential to be funnier. I keep watching it because of the cast.

Correct

This wasn't a funny film by any means. You admire it because of the cast.

Another film I viewed at the Merritt Theater as a kid. The film had its moments, but I can see why others wouldn't think much of it.

I grew up with this one-- it was one of my Dad's favorite films. I think it's pretty hilarious. Weird that Kino's Feb. pre-orders have different prices ($17.49 here versus $20.50 w/52 PICK UP).

Mark,

I think the pricing will change as we get closer to release date.

This is how I always felt about It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World. I warmed up that a bit to it with the blu, but I'm not sure I'll try with Russians.

Alan Arkin's debut film, before he played the famous psychopath Harry Roat Jr./Sr. in Wait Until Dark in 1967. This film is very funny, and it was a good follow up for Johnathan Winter's after Mad Mad Mad Mad World. It will be great to have this in my collection, too bad Kino doesn't make new special features for their releases, but the previous DVD features are better than nothing.

Looks like the pricing has already changed which I suspect is a mistake. The MRSP being listed for this BD is $24.95 with 30% off, it's now showing a sale price of $17.47 at Amazon. The other titles being released that day are still showing $29.95 MSRP with 30% off they're 20.97 at Amazon.

Hmmm, isn't this a kids' film? As a kid, I thought it was pretty funny. [We lived in a place in the mid-60s that didn't have TV yet! or much English theater product, so we only had 16mm films we imported, which we kids watched the crap out of. I must have seen this and Fantastic Voyage a couple dozen times back then.]

Watched the DVD twice since it first came out. Still seems to me like a slightly more "mature" live-action Disney film like they used to do at the time, IOW mostly for kids. Even 10-year-old kids at that time were very well aware of the cold war etc. themes of the movie, maybe today that would go over kids' heads.

I'm just saying this because there are lots of kids movies I really don't like, but kids love. And I loved this as a kid.
