Hi all,

I just joined the forum after stumbling across it while trying to find more info on Fluance and a receiver that will go well with it. So thanks to the many people who have posted on Fluance speaker topics.

I have an old Panasonic box theater setup from about 15 yrs ago in my main livingroom which is slowly being upgraded. I replaced the front speakers with Klipsch towers and the panasonic receiver with a Denon several years ago. Will upgrade the speakers and maybe the receiver next year most likely.

Right now my focus is on my new purchase which I'm waiting on shipment. I purchased the Fluance 5.0 XL Series with the Bi-polar surrounds. Btw, my first time with Bi-polar hope they are ok? I do not have a receiver for the system and not sure which to buy. I do not want to spend a crazy amount of money on a fancy receiver because this system is for my basement and not really my main focus. I checked on Amazon for discontinued or refurbished receivers but not sure which will pair well with this system.

Any help you guys can provide will be much appreciated. I do have one ask for the receiver. I want it to have audyssey or something similar for ease of setting up. My Denon has been amazing and running strong for 8 maybe 9 years now. So maybe another Denon but it's not a must.

Also, where would I be able to find some decently priced stands for the surrounds? Should I get stands or mount them? If mounting is better, how should I place them? I know I've a ton of questions but am trying to learn and research all of this as much as possible.

Thanks,
Vai

Hi Bhim,

Please leave your impressions of the Fluance speakers after you get them. It has been many years since I had mine and it seems the company has changed a bit since then (prices went WAY up - I hope the quality increased as well). I did enjoy them while I had them. FWIW, I had them hooked up to an HK receiver at first and later I had them running (briefly) on my Onkyo TX-SR705 (which I will be selling soon).

If you like Denon stick with them. Right now last year's models are on clearance. It is a great time to buy (I just picked up an X4000 for about half off). Sorry I don't have any specific recommendations. What is your budget for the receiver?

For stands check out monoprice.com. They have a few that could work for not much money...

Thanks Dave, I will most definately post a review of the speakers once they arrive and I've had some time to test them properly. I went to Bestbuy today to see what the magnolia dept would say about a receiver. They said to get any receiver as they are all the same and the amount of watts per channel did not matter either.....He then went on to try to sell me a 1000 receiver and said the next best thing was one for 800. I left as I felt that he was just trying to sell me something I didn't need.

I would like to keep below 500 and I do not care for bells and whistles so the lower the price the better. I don't want to go super cheap and loose quality but i can always upgrade later on.

The sales guy was right about the watts - they are way overrated. As far as I could tell from the Fluance website, the speakers are all 8 ohm which means pretty much any AVR will power them.

The Denon AVR-X2000 is on clearance right now for under $500 at Amazon. If I was looking for an AVR in that price range this one would be on my short list.

Thanks Dave! I'll take a look now. Hopefully, I'll have a few options to choose from by tomorrow evening. I'd like to place an order for it so that it arrives when the speakers do.

Hi Sam,

I actually do not know much about pre programmed remote and preouts. Here is a list of things that I normally use and would like.

Have:
PS4
Apple TV
Cable Box
Will not be adding any other devices as I don't really use anything else.

Use:
Pandora
Airplay (This can be done using apple tv to the tv. which I use now without the receiver having this function)

Want:
At the very minimum bluetooth
Some type of calibration built in (audyssey)

*
Do not care about front ports.
Not sure what preouts are or a preprogrammed remote. (I use my iphone/ipad to control my cable box?)

Preouts let you hook up external amplification.Pre programmed remote means the remote can run the entire system(that is IR based).Onkyo started having their remotes programmed to run an ATV out of the box(last years 525 starting off, I think. Or the 626).Anyway, all Onkyo(non pre-package) AVR have Bluetooth built in(even the 333). Last year, the 525 needed the bluetooth dongle. The 626 didn't.Pretty sure the 626 includes a preprogrammed remote.(The 525 and 626 are learning. The 727 is pre programmed. Learning just takes longer to set up)

Denon followed suit including Bluetooth this year. Denon "always" follows Onkyo in features(been that way for a decade) with Denon hanging their hat on Aud XT32(having that at 1/2 to 2/3 the cost of where Onkyo used to have it. Onkyo no longer has it. They went another direction)

Onkyo now uses there own crippled room setup tool they call AccuEQ. Hence the reason I recommend Denon (and the reason I am upgrading my old Onkyo to a new Denon)

Thanks for the info Sam. Will I need external amp for the Fluance XL 5.0 and F12 sub?

With the info you provided I guess I should be leaning towards an Onkyo? Amazon has discontinued/ refurb receivers which are very cheap (200-300).

Should I post a few models here and maybe you guys can help pick the best out of the lot?

Thanks again for your input!

David you just posted as I posted my last response. Man this is getting hard but I have a few Sony, HK, Denon, and Onkyo receivers saved on my home computer. I will post them this evening. I just checked shipping for the Fluance and they will arrive on Monday. Hopefully a note on the door is enough for them to leave the set at the door.

AccuEQ is not crippled. It is first generation. The two reasons Onkyo got rid of Audyssey...HDCP 2.2Pure Analog PathAudyssey circuit is not defeatable in bass management(and no, Marantz allowing the main speakers to be bypassed is not the same thing).AccuEQ is from Texas Instruments. Same people that bring us Burr Brown and DLP.AccuEQ doesn't EQ the mains or sub. The two things I don't want eq'd...except by me with a SPL meter. (By the way, I liken "auto room EQ" as turd polish).
