Hey there!

So, my ears are going itchy from using in-ear buds on my commute too and from work (about an hour each way). So I'm thinking of getting some on-ear phones. I don't want over-ear, mainly because I want to still be able to hear a bit of my surroundings so I don't get killed and they are just too bulky. I'm also getting a better portable music player (in theory, I drank the PONO kool-aid on kickstarter) so I figure I'll get a better than "good enough" headphone.

I've been looking at the Sennheiser MOMENTUM On-ear phones. Does anyone have experience with them? Are they robust enough for Canadian winter use? Sennheiser has a fold up headphone, but I don't think I really need that since I have messenger bag as it is, so I have space to stick some headphones in. The fold up ones also have some kind of noise cancelling thing that takes a AA battery. I don;t think I need that either, or do I? What noise does this thing cancel?

So, anyone have any suggestion? I'm wanting to stay away from the BEATS line, mainly because I'm under the impressions I'll look like a total idiot wearing them and I'm obviously very vain and self absorbed enough to worry about such things.

Noise canceling is getting better. Several cars have stereos you can't turn off now. The audio system is there for noise canceling.I've not heard any on ear with decent noise canceling. I thought it was a joke the first I ever saw ear buds with noise canceling.I like the overall Senn sound(my prior employer distributed AKG and Senn) even though I have ancient K240s.Sound, you'll probably like the Momentum. Harsh winters...dunno. The coldest I've used headphones is 45 mowing the yard.

Thanks for the comments guys. Sam, those phones look amazing. At that price point though I'd be a bit leery of having them out and about.

Is the headphone for mobile use? I just reviewed the Plantronics Backbeat Pro, which is a bluetooth wireless over-the-ear that is actually quite comfortable with noise cancelling, but has an OpenMic feature that allows you to listen to your environment momentarily without having to remove your headphones.

Hey Todd, they look great. I'm just leery of over the ear since I'm traveling by bus, and well, my neighbourhood is a bit sketchy in parts so I want something on ear and a bit lighter. If I was mostly flying around, I'd probably go for something like that. The PONO player I'm going to be using these with does not support bluetooth, I don't think. I've never used bluetooth headphones. I've always figured that wired ones would sound better, only because it's what I'm used to. :S

Hoping some members are using nicer headphones in the way I'm intending. :)

Oh heck, I missed the commute part. Sorry! Yes the beyers are BIG and I wouldn't want em walking around, I use em deskside constantly. First phones I can comfortably wear all day long.
