The Disclaimer

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, Circuit City is still out of business...even in Hawaii (where they NEVER guaranteed their prices anyway).

The Specials

--There are a number of excellent Twilight Time titles this week.  They can be pre-ordered HERE.

Thanks for the RoundUp, Mike.

There are many wonderful releases this week including a handful of great classic releases from Twilight Time. It's one of those weeks where a true movie or TV lover could easily spend his entire weekly paycheck just on releases.

Thanks for the Roundup, Mike.

Looks like I'm headed to both Target (for How to Train Your Dragon 2 with the bonus disc) and Best Buy (for Jersey Boys) this week. It would be easier to price match BB at Target for Jersey, but I don't get the newspaper in physical form, so I won't have the BB ad and Target has in the past required the actual ad in order to honor a price match. It's curious to me that BB and Target are both identical for the DVD of Jersey Boys, but the Blu price, which of course is what I want, is more expensive at Target.

I would also like to note that I am glad Target is doing bonus content on a disc this time -- their website indicates that they will have an exclusive with Guardians of the Galaxy which is only accessible via their digital copy redemption service, which I don't use. Store exclusive extra content has never been a favorite of mine, because while I will go out of my way to get it, I think they should just make the best release possible and sell it everywhere. But if they're going to do it, I definitely prefer a disc.

I Am Santa Claus looked fun -- it had one show at my local arthouse but I missed it -- and I would like to see Mood Indigo too, which never played here, but I'm not going to blind purchase them at these prices.

Big week for me with "Batman '66" -- which I was beginning to think would *never* make it to optical disc -- and Clone Wars: The Lost Missions.Quite a few of those "Twilight Time" titles are intriguing as well, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to "roll the dice" for a few weeks on them. I know that's stupid as they have limited availability while "Batman" and "Clone Wars" will not only continue to be available but will most probably come down in price -- but I just can't help myself!! (I've been waiting for Batman for as long as optical disc has existed; and I need "The Lost Missions" to complete my collection.)

And don't forget that the Barnes & Noble Criterion 50% sale starts on Tuesday.
It does? Haven't seen confirmation on that.

I expected to see the weekly ads have Batman season 1 listed, but none do. Odd....

Multiple reports directly from employees (and confirmed from several other forums) that the sale is planned to start Tuesday.
I guess they could call it off at the last minute, but I'm 99.44% convinced the dates are correct.

Definitely renting Jersey Boys and, if I can find it, Monty Python. VERY surprised Target does not have Batman listed...I work early Tuesday and will check out my local store after work.

Oh I'm not doubting you. I'm just surprised that it hasn't been a bigger deal.

So I'm betting the Target bonus disc for HTTYD2 is for the non 3d blu ray?
I got my copy of the 2D version at Target this afternoon. I was expecting it to include the bonus disc in a plastic sleeve shrinkwrapped to the back, as is usually the case, which I hate. Surprisingly and kindly, this time the Target edition is actually a 3-disc case which might be slightly thicker than the 2-disc standard edition (they have them in those hard plastic covers that the cashier opens when you check out, though, so it might be hard to tell.) The only indicator of it being the Target edition vs. the regular edition is a sticker on the slipcover.

I did not see any copies of the 3D edition marked in a similar manner at my Target. This is not to say there aren't any, because i wasn't looking for it in huge detail. I saw your post before I left, so I glanced casually for it, but did not see it next to the 2D edition offhand and didn't have time to do an exhaustive search for something I wasn't going to buy. (t cannot see 3D and therefore the format is useless to me, however nice it might be for the rest of you.) But it seems to me that the 3D edition would be upgraded to a 4-disc case if there is an edition which also contains the bonus disc. Just guesswork. Of course, your guess that they simply didn't include the bonus disc with 3D copies is also likely.

It is also worth noting that the bonus disc is a DVD, even though it is included only with the Blu-ray edition.

I also stopped into my local Wal-Mart for other things and saw their shelf prices for Dragon 2 are much higher than what Mike mentioned at the bottom of the first post, although perhaps they would have scanned to recognize a sale. The Blu-ray with sheep toss game was marked as $27something.

That's usually the case, as my store seldom posts the weekly advertised price. Not sure why they don't want the average Joe walking down the aisle to know that it's on sale, but they will usually scan for the lower price at the register.

From what I was able to ascertain at Target today, both from observation and upon inquiry (which is most times unreliable), the 3D version of HTTYD2 did not include the bonus disk. This is becoming increasingly common and is very disheartening, as I like 3D and also want the bonuses offered on release week. At any rate, I bought the 3D version and got 10% off through Cartwheel and an additional 5% off with my Target card. A poor consolation.

I just popped the Target bonus disc in my player and there was no sound. The Main Blu-Ray was fine. Has anyone else had this happen?

edit: Heh... Power cycled the player and that took care of it. Two years old and this is the first time that happened. :)
