Is the Nikon Speedlight SB-600 Flash compatible with a Canon EOS 30-D Digital SLR camera?I currently own a Nikon D70s and would like to upgrade to the Canon EOS 30-D, but I'm not sure if my current flash unit (Nikon Speedlight SB-600) will work with a Canon rig.

The Nikon flash will physically mount and can be triggered to fire by a Canon dSLR body as they both follow the ISO standard for flash hot shoes, but you will only be able to use the flash in it's manual mode. That means no E-TTL metering (TTL = "through the lens"), nor other automated flash features like flash exposure compensation, wake-up from sleep, matching the zoom to the lens's focal length, etc.

So, if you are very well versed in using an external flash and can use it manually, it will work. However, if you are counting on the automated flash features that most of us lean on, then you will need a new flash that can communicate with Canon cameras, whether from Canon or a third party.
