I am looking for suggestions for a direct replacement driver that would fit in this enclosure. Something that would be equal or better performance. The original specifications were.

24-120Hz frequency range117db SPL300 watts Rated power

12"

The enclosure is
HEIGHT: 18WIDTH: 15DEPTH: 19.9

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The only "direct" replacement is going to be the same driver. A better driver will still be limited by that enclosure and amp, so I wouldn't look to spend a lot on the project. I'd probably put the money toward a better sub.

Those aren't specs. Those are features. Theile/Small specs include things like Fs (resonant frequency) and Qes (Electrical compliance) that describe how the driver performs.

Why are you replacing the driver? Better performance? You won't get that. That driver/amp/enclosure combination was designed by the late Deon Bearden who was well known in the industry for his work. If you have a damaged driver and the Klipsch replacement isn't available or too expensive then the Infinity Reference 1260w is a viable choice at $59.60 from Amazon.

Thanks for the information. Yeah I am out of warranty on the sub and the driver failed. So I am looking for a replacement driver to fix it myself. I emailed klipsch and still waiting for a response. They emailed back that they are having higher than normal demand so they will get to me as soon as they can. So I though in the mean time I could possibly find a replacement that would work or even sound a little better.

How did you determine that? What is the measured resistance with your multi-meter? Did you gently push the cone in and see if the coil has unwound?

There is a slim chance you will get lucky and it will sound better. What you want is a 4 ohm driver that will fit your opening. The Infinity should fit.

If I had the multi-meter on the right setting it was reading 4.6 ohms. This is what it sounds like if you can view the link.

Based on what a few people have told me they said it was the driver. I got the sub right at 5 years ago from vanns.com and have contacted klipsch, and haven't got a response yet. I am under the assumption that the current driver is 8 ohms so I am trying to figure out if a 4 ohm driver will work because they are easier to find. It's a bash amp 300 watt but there are no numbers that help me indicate what ohm it can handle.

To me that sounds like the driver bottoming out. Have you checked other parts of the sub? Is the port still attached correctly? Has the foam surround on the driver deteriorated?

A driver works or it doesn't 90% of the time. There is very little in between. Breaking a tinsel lead will cause it to stop playing immediately and will read 0 ohms on your meter. An unwound coil will play for a little while but will sound scratchy even at low volumes. If you gently push the cone in by hand you will hear it scratch. When it does finally fail, it can short out and take the amp with it.

When you measured the resistance, did you disconnect it from the amp?
