It's great that TCM is getting into the Blu-ray business. Let's hope they can clean up their act after all the problems they had with their first Blu-ray release.

That was actually their second. Their first was the blu-ray of The Iron Petticoat.

I missed that. Apparently they dabbled with Blu-ray 2 years ago and no one noticed. :)
I found where DVD Beaver reviewed The Iron Petticoat and now I see that TCM's first attempt at Blu-ray was a bit of a misfire as well. VistaVision would never look that dull.

That was more of an elements issue. TCM had to deal with the Hope Estate for that transfer.

On TCM this morning, Ben Mankiewicz announced that the TCM Vault will be releasing the 4k remaster on blu-ray in January (he was actually holding a copy). Nothing on the TCM's shop but it is up for pre-order on Movies Unlimited:

@ just under $30.00! I love Twilight Time but I don't like the way others are copying their prices. Only Angels Have Wings is one of my favorite films but I'll wait for comments on the quality of this Blu-ray disc before I buy.

There is some indication these TCMs (also Remember the Night) will also be available through amazon, shortly after initial release on TCM and Movie Unlimited. This may only be important to non Statesiders but given the stratospheric TCM (and TT) postal charges from the usual venues it would be nice not to have to take a second mortgage.

It looks great, but the sound, at least on my copy, is HORRIBLE. I put on the start of the film and the music sounds like I'm listening to it underwater. I don't know if it's a phasing problem or something in that area, but Tiomkin's score is ruined. I have a feeling a replacement may be coming unless only my copy has this problem.

Most unlikely to be only your disc. It's either your system or every disc. I'll wait for other opinions before placing my order.

I have 2 setups and the problem is on both, so it isn't my setup. I sent an email to TCM SHOP. It might be early for enough complaints that they would check this out. I will post when/if I get a reply from them. I don't want to get a replacement disc before the problem is solved.

I had absolutely no problem with the sound on my set-up. Dialogue is very distinct and audible.

I think he's talking about the film score more than the spoken dialogue.

I'll have to watch it again (watched it once the day I received it) but I noticed no problems either way audibly. From score to effects to spoken dialogue.

I'm running an Onkyo 7.1 receiver. The 2.0 track gets dropped into my center channel only (Polk CS10 Center Channel speaker).

Yes, it is most notable when music is playing, but also the sound effects...like the roar of the plane engines. I went to the interview with the effects and sound men where they made comments, often with a particular scene in view. They talk over the scene, so it is harder to hear the problem, but it seems to be in those clips too. All you need to do is put on the main title to hear the problem. I am now convinced that something was not right with the film's master in the sound area. The dialogue is clear enough, and I am sure it has that problem, but just not as noticeable. The only similar problem I recall is on the THRILLER television set. Many of the episodes had this problem which I think was by mixing together the M&E track with the fully mixed track and you got this phasing problem.

All I ask is anyone who has this disc to run the main title and tell me if it sounds okay to you.

I just saw that DVD SAVANT gives the sound an excellent score.
