4 items on today's update:

1) States Our Miss Brooks is remastered through the first 2 seasons now. Seasons 3 and 4 in progress.

2) Ditto High Chapparal. Seasons 3 and 4 also in progress.

3) Update listed for Gunsmoke but I couldn't find anything new

4) Ditto Dynasty

Don't really know what to make of 1 and 2. What do they plan on doing with Brooks and Chapparal? Given their current trending, releasing either of these would be a major about face (especially Our Miss Brooks).

On the downside, no word on further remastering on Hillbillies or Junction. Not lookin good folks.

Perhaps a channel like Me-TV wants to syndicate them and is helping pay the bills? Or perhaps an independent is licensing them for release?

Seems too much all at once if CBS was just testing the waters themselves with DVD releases. I think the most we usually ever see in those cases is two seasons at once being announced as having received HD transfers (And typically, only one).

I don't know what it means, but regardless, nice to see at least a little investment still going into their B&W catalog.

ME-TV generally shows un-remastered shows. I don't think they would spend money on remastering. They would be completely happy with broadcasting the shows as is if given the opportunity. I think CBS is just continuing to update their catalog to HD masters for future use. Now High Chapparal could be going to Encore Westerns. They have paid for remastered episodes before. I would say DVD releases for High Chapparal and Our Miss Brooks are very possible since these have been remastered. With Have Gun Will Travel and Rawhide completed CBS could be looking for another western to release and High Chapparal is a color show to boot. I'm sure they would only release one season at a time and continued releases would depend on sales.

Wasn't there a rumor awhile back that Our Miss Brooks was coming to dvd?

The rumour was started after it was discovered that the First 2 seasons were remastered. Now we have 4 seasons remastered but still no DVD announcement.

I can't recall if a standard definition, old viacom 1980's tape masters were available on the series.

Am THRILLED about Our Miss Brooks but I'm skeptical about a DVD release because they don't seem to be remastering the three episodes that are unavailable for syndication (likely because of music issues).

Are there some lost episodes for Our Miss Brooks? Only 63 of the first 64 episodes were done, with episode 34 listed as unavailable for syndication. And it looks like episodes 65 and 73 from season 3 will be similar.

Edit: I didn't notice Upperco's post about those three episodes until just now, but I'd still love if someone in the know could possibly shed some light on this.

I could have sworn we had a discussion going on this a while ago. ME-TV bought Our Miss Brooks and that's why its being transfered. The show had no tape elements as the last time anything was done with it was back in the 16mm days.Regarding the 3 missing shows, I can tell you that I have 127 of the 130 from off air so its possible that those 3 episodes have been held out of the package for some time now. I will check further. As for HC, its been discussed on and off at CBS for some time now but AFAIK, there are still no definitive plans for any release.

I have 127 of the 130 as well, and only two of the ones I'm missing are among the three currently unavailable for syndication. Episode 34, which is currently unavailable, has been aired in the past.

I've heard such good things about High Chapparal. Would be neat to see that on DVD. Or even better, maybe, streaming in HD? Blu-ray, I assume, is out of the question....

CBS is getting into the streaming service game now, like Warner Archive. There's an emphasis on recent shows (NCIS. The Good Wife, Big Bang Theory), they also are featuring the big sellers form their archive (Star Trek, I Love Lucy, Hawaii Five-O):

Maybe this will be an extra motivation to remaster some of the old shows for HD (but it'll probably just be an extra outlet for the ones that already are).

Update: Looks like this only compatible with computers and mobile devices (no TV capability), so it's pretty pointless to me so far.

Forget streaming. I want DVDs released in my hands...standard or MOD is less important, though the former's always preferable. Come on CBS, this wish isn't so unreasonable nor is it quantum physics or rocket science on your part... ^_^

Charging $5.99/mo for content that is either available on free TV (current shows) or on other streaming services (like Netflix and Amazon) seems silly to me. Now, if they started offering classic content that isn't available anywhere else (including DVD), such as the remaining unreleased seasons of LOVE BOAT, CANNON, etc., then I might be a little more interested. Until then, this is a non-starter for me. (Not to mention, if I can't stream it to my HDTV, and the only way to view it is on an iPad, then forget it!)

If it's viable enough to remaster, I don't see why a DVD release is out of the question. I don't see CBS doing it themselves, but hopefully they license it out to an independent.

The main roadblock and I don't know if there's even any reason to worry that this might be the case, is if Me-TV really funded this as someone else said. If accurate, hopefully there's not something written up in a contract that prevents these remastered episodes from being released to DVD in order to keep this content exclusive to Me-TV for the run of their contract.

Any sort of precedence for such a thing? Or just a totally unfounded concern?

This complete set for The Phil Silvers Show, licensed out rather than being done in-house, has renewed my hope that some of these things in CBS's large portfolio of classics will be finished eventually.

Probably explains what they are doing with Our Miss Brooks. If it's only streaming, I'm not interested either.
DVD would be nice, but since I don't get Me-TV, I'll be happy to see Eve Arden anywhere for now.
Like Amos & Andy, I've been addicted to the old radio recordings but haven't been able to see the TV version anywhere except a handful on YouTube and wretchedly unmastered public-domain DVD. And if streaming pays the bills for the disk set, so be it.
("But sir, it's streaming, doesn't that--" "DIS-missed, Miss Brooks!" ;) )

It was a Desilu production, so I'm guessing the company should have saved it in some good condition.

DVD release for this series seems like a long shot , unless Paramount lets another company like Mill Creek release it . Notice I didn't mention Timeless/Shout Factory . They don't seem to be interested in this type of show any more.
