Paranorman (painfully) taught me the difference between which is Laika, and which is Henry Selick."Coraline" was Henry Selick. "Paranorman" was NOT. Neither, sadly, was this.

It's a subtle distinction some fans have still not as yet mastered, but with a little practice, it gets easier.

I was finally able to see this not too long ago. On a technical level this film has to be some of the best (if not the best) stop-motion animation I've ever seen. Story-wise I thought the film was decent enough, but it was not as engaging as either Coraline or ParaNorman. I found that I was ambivalent towards most of the characters. I just didn't really care for any of the characters in the film. It says something about a film when one of the best parts is part of the closing credits.

Still, I'd still buy this one on Blu when it comes out, because visually this film is an outstanding piece of artwork. Some of the body movements in this film could almost make a person forget that they were watching puppets. The sets for the film were fantastic too. Laika does fantastic stop-motion work. All they need to do is find better stories to tell.
