Now THIS is a pleasant surprise! Joan Hickson is the definitive Miss Marple, in my opinion!

BBC Home Entertainment is proud to release Volume One of the completely remastered Miss Marple, starring Joan Hickson – the actress Agatha Christie herself chose for the role!

Completely restored and remastered in stunning high definition, see Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple as you never have before! Joan Hickson, the actress Agatha Christie herself wanted for the role, stars as the shrewd sleuth in four thrilling whodunits: The Murder at the Vicarage, The Moving Finger, The Body in the Library and A Murder is Announced. Watch as Miss Marple puts her perceptive powers to good use and gets to the bottom of even the most complex crimes in this beloved series.

[*]Completely remastered to brilliant quality from the original film elements.
[*]Starring Award-Winning actress and fan favorite Joan Hickson.
[*]Aired on both A&E and PBS.

This is SUCH exciting news. Like you, I consider Joan the definitive Miss Marple, and since the DVDs look so soft and brown (like the old Poirots did before they were remastered for Blu-ray), this should be a like a breath of fresh air for these classic mysteries.

Shot on 16mm film, it obviously won't look like a million bucks even now but surely it should be a substantially better looking release than previous ones.

Nice to see the BBC held on the original 16mm film for this one (especially considering how many of their all-film productions only exist on VT masters now)

Weren't the first Poirot hour programs 16mm, too, because the Blu-rays of those are night and day difference in quality between the DVDs and Blu-rays.

Pretty much all filmed British television made after the collapse of ATV in the early 80s used 16mm instead of 35.

I received my set this morning and have sampled a few scenes. It looks more beautiful than I ever thought possible! I'm so thrilled. I can't wait to watch the episodes in full over the holidays! :)

I had asked to review the set, but, alas, no review set has been forthcoming (yet).

Thanks for the information. I haven't gotten Volume 1 yet, but maybe Santa will be nice to me this year.
