One of my favorite westerns from my childhood has finally been released on a video format that I can enjoy the reminder of my life. For many years, I've waited patiently for a decent home video presentation of this fine western. I almost gave up hope then Olive surprised me by indicating this title would not only be released in 2014, but on BD to boot which I never expected in my wildest dreams. I was a little worried that Olive would screw the pooch with this title, but that didn't happen in this case, as I think this is one of Olive's better releases PQ-wise. Most of my previous grades for Olive BD releases has been in the 2.5-3.0 range. On occasion there have been a few 3.5 grades. However, with this release, I'll give them a 4.0 grade for this Technicolor film.

I'm a very happy camper as I look forward to watching Distant Drums over the next few days.

Was a bit surprised this never got a pre-order page. Definitely deserving of its own thread both because it is a fine western and now that it appears that they transferred this from a virtually pristine and immaculate Technicolor print. Sure it's not completely spotless, but all film has those tiny intermittent flecks. Very easy to ignore in light of this gorgeous transfer.

Distant Drums is just as good in the Technicolor department for the most part. Some slight fade on the last reel in which the superb Technicolor is dulled, though just a trifle so. You should not be disappointed.

We really lucked out on these two United States Pictures films. The Court Martial of Billy Mitchell, another USP, was not so lucky. But the ravages of time are far more at fault than Olive on that one.

Great comparison in the differences with that title versus this one in the video presentation department.
