What's new

Would you be buying the 12.9" iPad that's rumoured for next March? (1 Viewer)

I'm 90% likely to get a new iPad this Fall (I was at 100%, but I've had to downgrade my position :) )I believe a larger iPad makes sense -- I've expected one almost since day one -- but I don't know if it's for me. I'll give it a hard look. However, a 10" ipad fits my travel bag perfectly.

I am happy with the present size as well.

...plus, really, I am being very impatient. Have been waiting forever
for this new iPad iteration to be announced. I am not waiting until next
year to hold off on a purchase for a larger size.

Unlikely. I think the current 10” is just right. However, as Sam says, never say never. I’ll look at them, see how they feel. Then, who knows? The 13” may blow me away.My iPad 2 is getting a little long in the tooth and will be buying a new one soon and giving the current one to my niece. I can wait until next spring, but I was thinking more likely in the next couple of months. The iPad Air2 will likely be the one I get.

Hopefully this doesn't mean there are no new iPads until next March. (Which is a rumor I've recently heard.)

I am under the impression that we are getting the new iPad air next month.

The only thing that's a bit scary is the lack of announcement from Apple about the
launch event.

I don't have a use case for an iPad that big. I'll be upgrading my 3rd gen iPad to an iPad Air as soon as the new models are announced - whenever that is.

Keynote announcements seem to be down to 7-14 days anymore, they wait until they are 100% sure things are good to go as planned.

So, you are confident we should be hearing something soon.

I gotta git my iPad to Gazelle in the next week or so.

I have zero insight into future products other than anyone else who reads LoopI or MacRumors. I'm just saying that the lack of early warning from Apple is not a negative factor, they just had the largest consumer electronics release in the history of mankind, are expanding that to new countries weekly, and have backorders on some models two months deep. They are a little busy right now. On the other hand, they have liked to do back to back announcements a month away from each other and the narrative on a second keynote in October makes a lot of sense to me.

Serenity Caldwell makes the case for why a Stylus with the Pro could make sense, as an accessory not as a primary input device (i.e. don't even start with the They Blew It comments, it will just make you look silly, we all agree that pen input has value in certain use cases and always have.)

I get it....

And I understand why most people don't....

While I have no regrets leaving Android and returning to iOS, the one thing

I miss is my stylus.

In fact, I already use a stylus with my iPhone 6 Plus.

No greasy fingerprints on my screen.

Just hope they make a stylus that has a pencil touch to it. It was great jotting

down notes on my Galaxy Note III.

I think now's a good time to introduce a new stylus, and hopefully even new APIs to support advanced functionality for artists and maybe even note-takers. Unlike 2007, non-stylus finger-input is entrenched today and a stylus will only add more options and better results for dedicated tasks.

Back in 2012, I was looking at styluses; I was also planning on doing professional reading and note taking on the weekends. Both of those fell away. I'd re-evaluate my interest in that if a new stylus, and perhaps new notebook apps, came out.

My first thought is 12.9" would be bigger than I would want a tablet to be but I think I would have to actually try it to be sure. Of course, Apple might have some extra features to make it more enticing as well.

For instance, if Apple was to build in a feature where you could use the iPad as an external monitor. I know there are 3rd party ways to do that now but an "official" solution would be nice.

Another crazy idea...wouldn't it be cool if Apple came out with a MacBook Air attachment for this big iPad? The iPad would attach to a "air base" which contained a keyboard, processor, storage, etc. for OS X just like a regular MacBook Air with the iPad acting as a screen/lid. You would then have a choice of using it in iOS mode or flip a switch and then be in OS X. Dare to dream! :)
