For those who appreciate the oeuvre of filmmaker Paul Verhoeven, Flesh+Blood is an early gem. Mr. Verhoeven's first film in English and last European production for quite a few years. As his first American film, Verhoeven, known for his cinematic displays of violence, took on Robocop.
Kino Lorber's Blu-ray is generally pleasing. The transfer appears to be several years old, as there is just a bit of sharpening. Color, densities et al, appear to be in line. Grain structure appears original.
A good film, that attempts to show early 16th century life as it may have actually been, ie. filled with problems of daily life, and just a bit of brutality.
The castle used as a major setpiece, is the same used for El Cid. If the Blu-ray of El Cid looked half as good as Flesh+Blood, I'd be thrilled.
