Glenn Erickson's extra(s) made for a cancelled MGM dvd release a few years back have been found and sent over to MGM, per Glenn. Fingers crossed for Kino to use them!

Very much looking forward to this. I've never seen it but heard about it for decades. Ordered through link.

While we won't get the credit, I believe our aspect ratio research has played a part in this film finally being seen in widescreen again - as the director intended!
Wonder what John Wells will have to say about this?

Marty and this film were both released in 1955. Bob Furmanek supplied Kino with all the scholarly documentation about the OARs. Do you have any doubts about what the great scholar Wells will have to say? And will the savants at Kino once again follow his sage advice?
Let's hope that this time scholarship wins over the boxy is beautiful argument.

It won't be. The hd source from MGM is very nice. And it'll be 1.66:1.
That's good to hear. Let's wait until the release just to make sure. I'm still upset over the other 1955 release and Kino's flip-flop.

I have no doubt at all. :) I'm anxious to see if facts override boxy or well there be another discussion.

MGM is doing or has done the transfer at 1.66.
Yep, it's already confirmed. MisterLime even said it would be back when this was first announced.

Very welcome news. Now to patiently wait for Quatermass 2 and Donovan's Brain...

It's already a well-worn discussion. All prior UK DVDs were stubbornly open-matte as was the MGM MOD. Kino is actually bucking the trend here. Has this ever been presented in widescreen on home video before?

So far as I'm aware, it has not been seen in widescreen since the original theatrical release.

I screened my copy last night and thought it looked very nice indeed.

Nice to have this in something approximating its original ratio. The transfer is fine, the elements occasionally less than fine and no real clean-up of them. Several of the opticals are the amongst the worst I've ever seen - while others have been cut in short and are fine. Plenty of white marks abound along with the occasional scratch. Contrast is mostly fine and detail can range from really sharp to not so sharp at all (not talking about opticals here). Overall, though, it's nice to have it looking well and sounding well. Extras are okay.
