Pass. I will never watch this film under any circumstances. If they think they can do better than the movie, there's always the stage.

From what I understand this remake won't include any of the songs. Like Matt has said, if they think it can be "improved", why not try a stage version instead, where they could easily extend some of the minor characters, add some more songs. The role of Nora is a perfect one for a trained Broadway belter.

The only reason this is happening is because Disney defector to Dreamworks Chris Sanders had two dragon movies of his own with a third on the way.

Meanwhile, where's that Who Framed Roger Rabbit sequel?

I think I actually saw this at the Gaumont screen 2 in the 70's.
It was an animated dragon.

Off topic, but...

Jessica, sure put on the pounds. :rolling-smiley: Yeah it made a lot of sense it did. I also miss the 80', Today its just dried up and not really interested in all now. They can 3D and Atmos, it all they like, doesn't interest me.

There are some distinct, er, problems with doing a stage version (union rules about disappearing invisible dragons), but from the sound of the Black Hole remake we didn't get, the 20,000 Leagues remake we didn't get and the Witch Mountain reboot we DID get, I understand this remake won't include anything resembling the original film IN it.
For them, it's really just about the announcement; the product comes later.

I'll be saving money money money by the pound by not paying to see this or any of the other Hollywood remakes. It's gotten so dire, other studios (*cough*Columbia*cough*) are resorting to re-remakes. It's killing Hollywood.
The last time I graced a movie theatre it was for "Toy Story 3". I'm saving lots of money too, which of course leaves more cash free for my DVDs and Blu-rays of classic films, with far more quality and imagination than anything Hollywood is offering today.

I guess they're also doing this because the Bedknobs and Broomsticks remake announced 10 years ago, which was to have been written by the screenwriter of Corpse Bride, fizzled out. That's the only comfort I can take out of this news.

I never watched the original film in its entirety. With that said, I loved this remake. Very sentimental and much fun for this old dude. I'm surprise nobody else on this forum haven't seen it. One of the best film experiences for me this summer.

Just happened upon this thread. The original didn't do much for me; in fact, I only remember the poster.
Were it not for Robert Crawford's praise, I would had skipped it altogether; but now I'm going to go.
Thanks.

I saw it a few days ago and thought it was wonderful. I saw the original as a little kid but I don't remember it so I can't compare the two but this one was a nice, sweet movie. Hopefully, word of mouth will help it make some money.

Earlier in the year, I rewatched the original movie for the first time since I was a kid... and it did not hold up for me at all. At nearly two and a half hours long, it was a chore to sit through. I had kinda tuned out all of the buzz about the remake after that. However, since it's come out, I've read a few critics that I generally agree with praise this movie while pointing out that they hadn't enjoyed the original, so I may give it a shot.

That it's not playing in any premium formats in my area may delay me seeing it until it comes out on disc. ($16 to see it in 2D or $19 to see it in regular RealD 3D, on screens not much larger than my own, doesn't seem like a great value to me.) But then it's a Disney movie, so they probably won't put it out on 3D Blu-ray....and I generally don't watch 2D versions of 3D movies. So actually, I might not get to see this at all.
