Wow! The Warner Archive is really starting to crank them out. It was just posted on their Facebook page that they're releasing "Possessed" (1947) starring Joan Crawford and Van Heflin.

I'd rather have Mildred Pierce or Humoresque first, but Possessed is very good, too. I'll take it!

Nice... but a bit surprised at the choice. If Possessed is coming out on blu ray....Mildred is a no brainer ....ok Ryan's Daughter and Raintree County would outsell in a heartbeat !!

Great News any way you slice it. I hope this means they did a restoration as there is one huge piece of damage in the version that was out on Laser Disc and DVD.

Im very excited about this.. slowly but surely all of these Warner titles that were in box sets are starting to come out, which means at some point Ill have room on my shelf where the retired box sets used to be :)
Im really looking forward to more of these great titles down the road ..maybe we'll get Sadie McKee too..

This is a fun movie but I prefer the earlier 1931 MGM Crawford vehicle with the same name. It has nothing to do with the later version but for Oliver T. Marsh's stunning cinematography alone it should be on blu ray. There is a scene early on involving Joan and a full scale moving train which is incredible. (This scene is shown in the great doc about cinematography VISIONS OF LIGHT) Not sure what elements may survive of this movie or that there would even be an audience for it. The version shown on TCM is pretty weak looking unfortunately.

Quite possible. We have to remember that this is a Warner Archive release, a secondary HV line that picks up titles that WHV won't release for whatever reason. In other words, titles that have more middling sales potential--low by WHV standards but high by WAC standards.

Mildred Pierce may very well be queued for a future release by WHV already. That or being "planned" which is either good news or bad news...

Also for trivia buffs take note: each film's director has the initials C.B. Clarence Brown in 1931 and Curtis Bernhardt in 1947.

I can't see Warner releasing any forties b/w movie, except under the Archive label, & thinking about it, any forties, fifties or sixties movie. And I may have woken up feeling a bit cynical this morning, but would Mildred Pierce sell that many more copies than Possessed?

I bought the earlier Possessed on a Warner Archive disc, but I haven't watched it since I first got it and viewed it. I have no memory of its quality. I was just thrilled to have it back in the day. One of these days when I get a day off, I'll have to give that one a spin and see it again. All of Joan's early films where she's a struggling young woman trying to make a life for herself are always entertaining, and I bought a bunch of them on WA some years back.
