My favorite decade for cinema is the 1950s. I honestly believe it's the greatest decade of films. So whether you agree or not, what are your MIA films from that decade that you think can benefit from a blu release? Here's mine:

Boy On A Dolphin (1957) Sophia Loren and Greece compete for attention. Sophia wins! Alas an anamorphic transfer has never seen the light of day on standard DVD. It's up to blu to pick up the ball.

High And The Mighty (1954) It took years for the grandaddy of airline disaster movies to reach home video. Hopefully it won't take that long to go blu.

Ivanhoe (1952) Knights, swords and damsel in distress. The best of the 50s swashbucklers.

The Long Hot Summer (1958) Please?

No Down Payment (1957) An excellent ensemble drama about the emerging Suburbia. Never even saw a standard DVD release.

Pajama Game (1957) Jean Luc Godard's favorite musical could use some spiffing up before its transfer to blu.

Seven Brides For Seven Brothers (1954) One of the greatest musicals ever made. The current DVD is a colorful transfer but it could use some tweaking.

Some Came Running (1958) Vincente Minnelli's masterpiece is crying out for an HD transfer.

Summertime (1955) Even Criterion dropped the ball on this one. Bring on the blu!

Written On The Wind (1956). The standard DVD courtesy of Criterion is a gorgeous transfer. The extra clarity and depth a blu could give can only heighten the viewing experience.

Ron, you'll be able to cross one of those titles off your list as Twilight Time has promised us April Love for next year!

I'll go with *fewer* than 10.The Scott/Boetticher "Ranown" cycle. After a long wait, I'm still happy to have the DVD's, but I could be arm-twisted into buying Blu's.(I think one, or possibly two, of the films might have been released in the early 60's, but I think the cycle should be intact.)

All right. Delete "April Love".

Add "War and Peace" - Paramount, 1956, dir. by King Vidor

Konstantinos, thanks for the heads up on the region free German The Long Hot Summer. I'll have to check out some of the reviews regarding the quality though I have a suspicion Twilight Time might still surprise us with this. I think I've read that the German War And Peace blu transfer is disappointing.

Hard to keep it to ten, as it's my second favourite film decade after the sixties, but I'll play the game. No masterpieces, just ten colourful movies that should look great on Blu-ray:

Scaramouche '52
This Island Earth '55
The Vikings '58
Bad Day At Black Rock '55
Teahouse Of The August Moon '56
Helen Of Troy '56
Knights Of The Round Table '53
Bend Of The River '52
Land Of The Pharaohs '56
Ride Lonesome '59

I could fill a list with my favourite British and European movies awaiting release (I've started a separate thread on Alphaville for instance) but here I'll just demand immediate release NOW of:
The Pajama Game
Calamity Jane
Annie Get Your Gun
Three Little Words
On Moonlight Bay
By the Light of the Silvery Moon
Two Weeks with Love
The Band Wagon
For Me and My Girl (ok, so it's from the 1940s but I thought I'd slip it in....)
Show Boat
Silk Stockings

I think that's 10 -- unless I've managed to slip a extra one in without anyone noticing.... Some of the above may be musicals.

I'd be repeating what others have posted, so I'll just go with one for now.....
From atfree's list:

The Thing From Another World

Even after almost 60 years since I first saw it, still one of my all time favorites.
Please, someone, somewhere, give us a restored, repaired, re-whatevered Blu Ray!
