Hmmm... wonder if they're just going to release the new iPads this year and forego a formal announce event. From what I've read there would be three major HW improvements:

* Touch-ID
* A8 chip
* Better camera

All of which have been discussed at other events.

Or maybe it's 10/14 or 10/28... :)

Even though it got a "nope", as I posted in the Which iPhone poll thread, I'm hoping we get refreshed iPad Air/Mini with 256GB storage in the coming 2-3 months. With the big iPhone 6/6+ and iOS8 launch, I can see Apple not having a big event if the Air/Mini 2 doesn't have new groundbreaking features to distinguish it from the Air/Mini. Thinner, more memory, better battery life, A8 doesn't really warrant a whole event (and would be repetitive to what they just announced with the iPhone 6).

While anything is possible, I have to think we'll be getting new iPads soon. I'd be really surprised if they left the top-end iPad with the same memory as the new iPhone, and with a weaker processor, for very long. And as we all know, the holiday season is fast approaching and Apple would be doing itself a disservice not to have as many new products for people to buy just in time for the holidays.

Fingers crossed, my Christmas gift this year to myself will be an Air/Mini 2 256GB + iPhone 6 128GB. :cheers:

Yep, lots left unsaid. All we know for sure is there is NOT going to be a keynote event on 10/21, take it to the bank.

I am amazed at the inside knowledge you have of what is going on at Apple

Otherwise, you are putting a lot of faith in someone posting on a website, "nope"

I am not saying you're not right. However, I am surprised by the assurances you
are providing all of us at this point.

When Jim Dalrymple says "nope", the entire Apple community listens.

I wish there was a rumorist-ranking site. I think it was attempted a few years back; I gather it's not a successful way to make a living :)

Mark Gurman at 9-5 Mac seems good on software. Gruber is good. Dalrymple is perfect(?) but says so little he's not of much help.

The supply chain leaks are now shown to be perfect predictors of the actual hardware, especially within a week or two of announcement.

But the supply chain analysts are worse than useless, as their rumors that supplies are low and the announcements are canceled or phones will be delayed to next year are always wrong.

Yeah I was gonna say Dalrymple is perfect because:

[*]He obviously has an informer(s) on the inside, placed fairly high up the food chain of Apple
[*]He generally comments with a Y/N on other peoples' speculation. Will there be an iPhone event on this date? Yep. Will there be an iPad event on this date? Nope. Will new Macbook Pros be released on this date? Yep.
[/list]
Given how he doesn't go out of his way to make his own predictions (i.e. Apple will release X on Y date) that along with his sources keeps him perfect, but only as confirmation (or non-confirmation) for other rumors.

Keeping an eye on this as I have several holes and fractures on my iPad air (lost an argument with the kitchen tile floor)I always refer to the macrumors buyers guide for a tumor rundown, which seems mostly accurate considering there's not a lot of leaks prior to the iPad eventt. Doesn't look like there will be anything really new or awesome, but it will have less holes than my iPad air, so that's a selling point in itself.

I like MacRumors buying guide (and their forums can be helpful). The downside is their recommendations break when Apple stops following simple annual patterns. For example: the Mac Mini has read "Don't Buy" for over a year.

True story Dave. Best rule of thumb for me is if it's a current cash cow or an important product like iPhone, iPad or MacBook pro retina it will likely get updated every 12 months (12-16 for the laptops, depending on new Intel chip availability). If it's more low volume like the mini or Mac pro then all bets are off. It could be years between refreshes.

The Mac mini is don't buy for good reason even tho it's overdue. It's not good value and hasn't been for a while... The iMacs on the other hand...
