I have a 5020 which is not top of line kuro but still good. I am pondering going bigger. Is there anything out there that beats it? Keeping in mind were a long way away from 4k content? Thanks!

I hope OLED takes off, but it's not looking too promising. Seems as though LG is the only company interested in making them.

I thought Sony was making oldest too? Did they give up on the dream? Sounds like I will be holding off for now. Can't they just make a damn good tv with no gimmicks?

LG OLED has forced noise reduction applied as standard, even with it switched off in the menu system, hopefully a firmware upgrade has fixed that issue, a disc like Spears and Munsil 2nd edition can be used to test the set out and make sure, intolerable to pay money for an OLED and have noise reduction applied even when it's switched off, what are LG thinking.

I also have a 2009 Kuro 5020. I've never had it calibrate. I've wondered if I should get it cal'd now, to breathe new life into it. I've recently heard about the Elite logic board upgrade. If that's even still possible, I've wondered if that's worth the money.I have no plans to upgrade this living room TV, since I want the next step up to be a media room projector. That's what I tell myself to not lust for a 60" living room set. :)

Dear McPaul...if you want to go bigger, I have my 60" Pioneer 1080P monitor (KRP 600M) for sale in the classified listings under the heading "King of Plasmas." Kindly check it out. It would be a definite step up from your 5020. Regards.

Dave: How do I post a pic in the classifieds? I can't find the "UI." Help!

I appreciate the pointer William, but I'm in Vancouver. Shipping and border charges would be insane! Best of luck with the sale. What did you replace it with? I'm toying of selling mine as well, ahead of my next move which likely will be soon.

I'm looking at a 4K LG, 65 inches. I think they have the best technology right now. If you run into a friend here in the states who might be interested in a Pioneer Plasma, you might tell them about mine (unless you put yours up for sale). Thanks!

4K media may not be out yet but Dec 2015 will come around soon enough and the 4K UHD bluray players should be in stores along with a number of 4K UHD bluray discs! I would stick with the Samsungs over the LG's personally! The Samsung UHD tv that I own has an external unit where you plug in multiple HDMI and USB devices which makes it upgradeable. The LG (Goldstar) displays have to many issues with bad panels and power supplies for my liking so there will be no LG product in my HT or on my gaming pc! I know to many people who have had issues, sales people that have had to many come back and I have worked for a place that was a return center and more LG came back than any of there brands.

I would stick with Samsung, Sony and Panasonic with what I have seen over the past few years. It is hard to say if anything today will beat the Kuro and when I saw a consumer reports article saying a LG HDTV as just as good as a Pioneer Elite Kuro I had to laugh and I lost even more respect for Consumer Reports.

Dave: Are those Altec "Voice of the Theatre" speakers in your system? I didn't know they made any "furniture grade" models. Way back in the day, I owned a pair of Altec A7s, until I finally realized they weren't very good for a home stereo system, since they required lots of HF boost as well as low frequency EQ. Yours look good!

Yes they are A-7's and they used to be painted grey and had the Altec decals on the sides. I was not able to finish the project of getting them refinished but one day they will get done. These Altecs do not have the Altec HF driver but a Renkin-Heinz and they sound very good. I do have these EQ'ed and I have yet to find anything to match the sound and impact they give me.
