My head has been spinning over the last week about different speakers and speaker location. I need some advice. I am by no means a genius with these things.First I have a 15' D x 20' W family room being built in my basement. I am planning on doing 5 speakers and a sub. I am thinking of doing 1 center ( Monoprice #6317 ) under my 60"TV on the 2'x5' fireplace bumpout on the front wall. I was thinking of getting a pair of Monoprice #6816's to mount in my wall. The speaker wall placement would be to the left and right of the sectional, approximately 18" in front of the sitting area and 5' to the left and to the right of the sitting area. Also getting a pair of Monoprice #4929 to mount in the ceiling directly behind the sectional 18". I would also get the 12" sub and pair it all with a Yamaha 477 receiver.Question #1 , is Monoprice quality and sound? I will watch more sports and movies in that room. I was looking at Polk audio or Pyle speakers also?. #2 Speaker placement? I can not put in wall speakers to the left and right of the TV due to windows on each side of the bumpout. Also can not put a center speaker above the center of the TV in the ceiling due to a floor truss. Should I get another pair of ceiling speakers for my fronts and upgrade to a 7 channel receiver? #3 Mixing in wall and in ceiling? Dumb or Ok? Maybe do all ceiling or keep it mixed? #4 I am doing blown insulation in my ceiling for sound and foam insulation in my exterior walls? Do I need to build a box for the speakers for protection? If so, what do I make it out of and how much clearance do I need on the back of the speaker to the box?Thank you all

That would be infinitely preferable to front speakers in the side walls or ceiling.

I have decided against the front speakers on the wall. Now what if I put one center in wall below the TV, and 4 in the ceiling? Front 2 offset from the tv directed at the seating area and the back two behind the sitting area pointing straight down?
I have never used a LCR bar? How would this option compare to this?

When I am looking at getting ceiling speakers to directionalize the sound or "aim" at the seating area what do I look for? Do I just need the tweeter to aim or the entire speaker?

Why? If you have room for a center in-wall below the TV, why can't you install mains in the wall to either side of the center? Having all three front speakers below the TV is a far better solution than a center below the TV and the mains in the ceiling. Of course, that's pretty much the same principle as using a LCR sound bar...

As others have said - mixing front speaker placement (center below the TV, mains in the ceiling) is a pretty bad idea. Actually, ANY front speaker in the ceiling is a bad idea, IMO. Yes, there are "aimable" in-ceiling speakers - but that's generally an inadequate solution to a glaring problem. Have you been able to find a place that has some in-ceiling mains set up like you propose so that you can listen to them? If you can find a place that has a similar setup (and honestly, I'd be surprised if you can - since such a setup is unlikely to promote sales) I would spend some time there to get a sense of what you should expect.

Parts Express has a LCR bar combination with sub for a low price.Don't ask how their in-wall compare to MP's. I doubt very many people have done any sort of direct comparison.

Thanks a bunch for your help. I will look into the soundbar. It would be much easier is I could put speakers to the left and right of the TV but I have windows on either side. I appreciate it all

Don't for one second believe that ceiling speakers "aimed" at the viewing area makes the sound appear to come from any direction other than the ceiling. A lot of people do this and it has always baffled me. Honestly, if you don't want to have sound coming from the correct locations, then just forget the entire idea and use the TVs speakers.

With a 60" TV, if you have room for a center speaker, you have room for a sound bar. In fact, you have room for three speakers below or above the TV.
