This should be a drop in the bucket compared to WKRP.I wonder how Shout did on music clearances for Seasons 6-9.
I have the original network broadcast on tape (and all the other NBC sitcoms from that night) at my Mom's house. As soon as I start looking for my tapes, that's one of the ones I'll ask for first in case whatever is lost there was also cut in the syndicated version above. Most of the network broadcasts, and there aren't many, I have are from the Over Our Heads years.classictvfan40 said:
This is the episode with the uncleared song.
I was thinking that, too. The only other song in that episode I can recall is "Flight of the Bumblebee" on the accordion. That should be public domain by now, unless pre-revolutionary Russian copyrights are still in effect anywhere on Earth.moviebuff75 said:Probably "Ease on Down the Road" from "The Wiz."
But the plot revolves around it! I know, I know...moviebuff75 said:She sings it a couple of times in that scene, and they said a couple of minor edits...so that's my best guess.
Possibly. But they also have to clear "Somewhere" from West Side Story, and "Happy Birthday" (which I understand is unreasonably high-priced).moviebuff75 said:Probably "Ease on Down the Road" from "The Wiz."
If Sondheim refused them, he's dead to me unless he publicly chews out Alan Thicke for trying to rhyme "bad" and "have." Other shows of this era have licensed his songs successfully, though; on one episode of Gimme A Break!, Nell sings "Tonight," also from West Side Story, and that's still on its DVD set.John Karras said:Possibly.
