Movie Selection Expands on Kaleidescape with Content Licensed from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment

SUNNYVALE, CA – September 11, 2014 Kaleidescape, Inc., the market leader in home movie servers, today announced that it has entered into a license agreement with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, ushering in more movies for cinema-quality download and immersive viewing on Kaleidescape’s state-of-the art movie servers and its award-winning movie player, Cinema One.

With this new agreement, Kaleidescape will enable its customers to conveniently access an even wider selection of the high quality movies from a variety of sources—whether purchased on disc, downloaded from the Kaleidescape Store, or acquired from a third-party UltraViolet™ retailer.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s catalog includes franchises such as The Amazing Spider-Man, Men In Black, The Smurfs, and 21 Jump Street, as well as film classics like Lawrence of Arabia, Taxi Driver and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The Kaleidescape Store serves all Kaleidescape Systems in the United States and Canada.

“Kaleidescape is an innovative UltraViolet digital retailer, serving a market segment comprised of avid movie collectors,” said Jason Spivak, EVP of Worldwide Digital Distribution for Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. “We are excited to be able to offer these consumers the convenience of purchasing digitally so that they can enjoy instant access, and the flexibility to experience our content across a range of devices and environments, including the home theater and mobile.”

Seventy-five percent of the movies purchased from the Kaleidescape Store are Blu-ray quality. Kaleidescape customers are embracing the enhanced digital flexibility that comes with their UltraViolet digital purchases. With the addition of the UltraViolet Disc-to-Digital feature, customers can upgrade select DVDs from their personal collection to HD, add them to their UltraViolet digital library for instant playback on their Kaleidescape system, and even access them via any other compliant UltraViolet service and device. Kaleidescape makes it possible for its customers to enjoy both—the convenience of digital downloads, as well as the spectacular quality and content usually available only on disc.

“The Kaleidescape Experience is all about making your movie-watching experience at home more enjoyable and convenient,” said Cheena Srinivasan, founder and CEO of Kaleidescape. “The addition of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment titles to the Kaleidescape Store expands our ability to deliver a beautiful cinematic journey through some of Hollywood’s best and most memorable moments. With the tight integration of UltraViolet Digital Offers in the Kaleidescape Store, customers can now effortlessly convert their DVDs to digital versions in the cloud and even upgrade many DVDs to Blu-ray quality movies. We make everything so simple and intuitive that our customers now have the option to seamlessly collect physical media and digital media with the best of both worlds: high quality and digital flexibility. We do the hard work, so they can enjoy great movies at home.”
