I just noticed that the 3D blu-ray of Captain America: The Winter Soldier 3D is being sold around town and on the internet for $19.96. It is also being packaged in the rational presentation of a 3D disc and 2D disc without a redundant DVD disc but with a digital copy for those who like it. I know that the marketing at Disney is separate between Disney Home Video and Marvel but the difference in the marketing strategy between their 3D releases is jaw dropping. Believe me, I am not complaining, to find one of the best movies of the year coming out at as a reasonably priced 3D release is a fantastic gift from the studio. It just boggles my mind that 3D releases from a different department under the same corporate umbrella can be handled so differently.

Thank you Marvel from myself and I’m sure from the rest of the 3D enabled TV community here in the US!

I wonder if this might be a test just to see how well this kind of 3D disc set will sell ? It should do well as this is a great movie and I thought it was a very well done conversion when I saw it at the theater. I boggles my mind as this is the way Disney Home Video should have released OZ The Great And Powerful, Frozen and Need For Speed. Maybe the 3D hater in charge of Disney Home Video can use this release as a template for successful releasing of a blu-ray 3D in the US. We can only dream.

Thanks for the heads up. Just ordered it from amazon.com as well. (And ordered a used copy of Captain America: The First Avenger 3D from a well reviewed seller on Amazon.com Marketplace for $20 as well as I never got around to picking that one up previously).

+1 on the Marvel thanks. They also packages "Thor: The Dark World 3D" the same way and at the same price point. In my opinion that was a huge improvement over how they priced "Iron Man 3" and "The Avengers" (the other two movies that Disney did the initial home video release of). Avengers/Iron Man 3 both also included a DVD copy, but the retail price was about $50, and the actual street price was about $35, which to me was very high. These discs aren't loaded with bonus features the way (for example) Fox's four disc "Prometheus 3D" was, so $35 is a lot to basically just have a bunch of copies of the same content just on a bunch of different kinds of discs. And as much as I appreciate the theoretical convenience of having an extra DVD copy, I'm probably not going to use it -- I generally won't watch a movie that has a 3D version in 2D, so what am I gonna do with a DVD? If it was free, sure. But they've cut out the DVD and knocked $10-15 off the price, which makes me a happy camper. More like this, please!

As I mentioned above, I believe this to be an excellent 3D conversion and worth owning. And even if you don't believe conversions are done that well, you have to admit they are far better than your TV or blu-ray player's 2D to 3D converter can do because a human eye was involved in there somewhere along the line. That doesn't go for those quicky Fox conversions, i.e. I, Robot, Jumper, ect.

When AVENGERS first came out, it was selling at Target for $19.99, not $35.00. And the 3D PROMETHEUS had been selling for $14.99 - $19.99 at Best Buy for a while.

Best deal for CA right now seems to be at Target. With card, the price is $18.99...and that includes a Making Of... documentary that is NOT included on versions from Amazon or Best Buy. Got my copy this morning.

Don't care about the doc. If it were a Criterion title, then yes it would matter, because I actually watch those. Anyway for me the best deal is on Amazon because it costs me about 12 seconds of my time and zero gas.

Well, at $6.00 more thru Amazon (plus shipping cost, if you aren't Prime), you're paying for "gas" anyway! Me...paying less for more works better.

I went to Best Buy to grab my copy of CA2 in 3D and Agents Of Shield, and they were sold out of both - even though the website said right then that both were in stock. The store manager said they were sold out when I asked, but kept insisting the website was correct to say it was in stock. (He also mentioned that it had sold out in the morning. I would have been more understanding if they were like, it sold out ten minutes ago and the website isn't always instant. But sold out for at least eight hours and the website still says it's there? That's just wrong to do to customers.) How it could be both sold out and in stock at the same time is a mystery to me - I was pretty sure "in stock" and "sold out" are mutually exclusive terms. They wouldn't even apologize for the inconvenience of losing the time coming down there. This was the Best Buy in Union Square in NYC. He said all of the other Best Buy stores in NYC were also sold out - even though the website at that very moment still said they were in stock. I then went to Target, which had the 3D disc in stock but was out of copies that came with the bonus disc extra feature. At that point I didn't care and just wanted to be done with shopping, so I got the regular 3D edition at Target. They were very polite about it though. And their website never claimed they had the bonus disc version in stock so I don't really feel bait and switched. After that experience at Best Buy and the way the clerk, assistant manager and then store manager spoke to me, I think I'm done shopping at Best Buy. I'd also recommend in general not to trust the Best Buy website when it says something is in stock and not planning your day around it. The moral of the story seems to be, shop Amazon. The price would have been the same, and a lot less frustration all around.

I got CA 2 3D and Doctor Who Deep Breath today from BB. Cost a total of $30 for both. They have a $10 multiple item discount thing this week.

Don't worry about the bonus disc...no one got it! Seems there was a screw-up somewhere. Marvel is looking into it.

Haha.. well, I'm glad I didn't waste more than 30 seconds thinking about it. The Best Buy thing left me so frustrated that I was just so happy to be able to get a copy of it to watch tonight, period.

I read at Home Media Magazine that instead of a disc it's a digital extra with a code you use to access it. Supposed to be pretty good but it's only 6 minutes long.

Yes, but those who entered the code got the movie only...no featurette. Haven't used mine yet...I'll wait till I hear it's working

Supposed to be working now...
UPDATE (9/10/14): Apparently Target has consolidated its multiple digital versions of Captain America: The Winter Soldier at Target Ticket, so that the only version that pops up under the redeem search is the version with the extras, and some users reported receiving an email informing them that their previously redeemed version of the film would now include the extras. This would appear to resolve the issue, though it's unknown if this means that codes from any version of the film, including those from other retailers, can be used to access the Target exclusive.

After downloading and installing the Target Ticket software and then downloading the extra feature, I'm getting a "license for this title not available, please try again later" message. The hell with it.
