This thread is dedicated to Kino Lorber Studio Classics BD release announcements. Discussion on upcoming KL Studio Classics BD releases is welcome, but any deviation from that specific topic will not be allowed in this thread. Discussion of prior KL Studio Classics releases regarding any PQ-related issue needs to take place elsewhere. Throughout this area of the forum there are various threads for such discussions already in existence. If no thread exists then members are free to start a new thread to discuss such matters.

Furthermore, this thread's purpose is to not revisit the "Kino Lorber" vs "Twilight Time" vs "Criterion" vs "Whomever Studio" old argument. If you want to discuss that subject matter then do so in one of the more appropriate thread(s) for such a discussion.

Like the prior thread, this thread will be heavily moderated. However, unlike the prior thread, disruptions to this thread will not be tolerated, so please, adhere to this warning. The HTF Staff will not allow this thread to be bogged down in negativity like the prior Kino Lorber thread. We don't have a problem with valid criticism about past or recently released titles from Kino Lorber, but do so in a more appropriate thread for such a discussion.

The HTF Staff will try to update this thread with new information regarding upcoming releases as it comes to us. We also appreciate any help from members regarding new information. This thread's sole purpose is for release information regarding upcoming KL Studio Classics BD releases.

I'm really looking forward to 8 of the upcoming September releases that I preordered because 4 of them are on my favorite film listing. One title I don't remember ever seeing is Juggernaut. I hope to correct that omission next week some time. Looks like only 4-5 titles for me in October. However, I'm back up to 8 maybe 9 for November before finishing up with just 3 of the December releases.

Hopefully, we'll start getting some info on the 1st Q 2015 releases in October and November.

I remember as a kid my grandmother taking me to see Juggernaut and I was disappointed because it wasn't another The Poseidon Adventure. I'm really looking forward to revisiting it now, as it sounds like something right up my alley. Also have The Party, Elmer Gantry and Run Silent, Run Deep on preorder.

Got my What's New Pussycat? blu in today's morning mail. It's one of my all time favorite comedies and what a treat to have an anamorphic transfer. Into the "for trade" bag goes the old DVD. I have the blu of Duel At Diablo and the standard DVD of Separate Tables due to arrive later this week.

I don't purchase nearly as much these days, but I see some titles on the list (in addition to a few releases that I've already purchased) making their way into the collection. Looking forward to Coming Home, The Long Goodbye, 'Run Silent, Run Deep', Topkapi, and True Confessions. Maybe a few others depending upon my mood.

I've never seen Across 110th Street but reading about it on the web, it sounds like something I would enjoy. Big fan of the gritty crime thrillers of the '70s.

- Walter.

Walter,

If some other member doesn't beat me to the punch, I will be starting discussion threads on each of the titles you listed in your post. I've always loved Run Silent, Run Deep, one of the best submarine films ever made while True Confessions has always been underrated to me. I've got Across 110th Street on the way to me now, so perhaps Tuesday, I'll post a thread on that title.

Definites for me - The Quatermass Experiment and Planet of the Vampires.
I read on a post from my friend Ben Gart on Facebook that they contacted Glenn Erickson from DVD Savant
Here is a quote
"He located his copies of the extras he'd edited for a formerly planned MGM release and has sent them back over to MGM for inclusion!"

Anyway Im hoping for more genre titles from the MGM Midnight Movie line and/or the MOD Line ..everything from Tales of Terror to Curse of the Faceless Man to Land/People that Time Forgot and then some

Just a quick question as dates are handled differently in the UK, is Running Scared coming out in September or December. ?

Brad here. First of all, kudos to Robert Crawford for his handling of this whole thread issue. I enjoy a civilized board for my relatively new hobby of home theater.

Now for my Kino list:

On Pre-Order:

Run Silent, Run Deep (1958)
A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To the Forum (1968 i think)
Meteor (1979)

In my Shopping Cart (or soon to be):
Running Scared (1986)
Desperately Seeking Susan (1985)

I'm pleased to see that Kino Lorber give prominence, on a banner on the back cover of the box, to not only the running time, aspect ratio, etc but they also give the year of release of the film. Other labels which sensibly do this are Olive Films and Twilight Time. I don't know why it is but so many of the big studios such as Fox, Warner, Sony and Paramount seem to have a reluctance to clearly indicate when the film was made. Invariably, such information is hidden away in the copyright small print which (in my case!) requires a magnifying glass to read it.

This is something which has always niggled me. The year of the film is as important as any other detail about the film. After all, one wouldn't expect a film guide book such as Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide to list film titles but no dates - that would be absurd because it's essential information to place each film in an historical context. I nearly always know, at least to within a few years, the date of a film but it's useful to have the information clearly stated on the packaging, as a reminder.

They've been showing Juggernaut on MGM HD this past week. It looks like a very good video transfer.

I am hoping for good things. Haven't seen this one for years, but remember it from its showings on CBS in the 80's. Very good thriller.

LAST EMBRACE is a very new transfer so this bodes well for the Blu-ray. Some of the others in the above list may also have fresh HD transfers.

I've been lobbying for a release of Last Embrace since the DVD era. Very gratifying it is finally coming out...and in HD no less. My most eagerly awaited Kino/MGM title followed closely by Planet of the Vampires.

The early announcements were front loaded with a bunch of must haves, but I'm a bit disappointed by the last couple months of releases. A few must haves to be sure, but I was really hoping for Eye Of The Needle, Who'll Stop The Rain, Comes A Horseman. Hell, even Roller Boogie would have had me doing the banana dance...but nada on all counts.
I greatly hope they'll show up in the next wave of announcments or in an even more hopefully second licensing arrangement.
Between Kino, Twilight Time, Shout Factory (more of an outside chance with those kinds/eras of films) and German and UK licensors, I'm a little surprised it's taking as long as it is to get those. Eye and WSTR, at least seem to me to be fairly highly regarded for their era

I'm waiting for the verdict on TARAS BULBA a favourite piece of "epic trash" that I discovered on television as a kid and ELMER GANTRY, a great performance from Burt Lancaster (Oscar winner) and Jean Simmons. Shirley Jones also got an Oscar, and although she is good, the part is fairly brief. I think it was more for her playing totally against type. The girl from OKLAHOMA and CAROUSEL as a prostitute! A big step in 1960 and Hollywood loves a good "hooker" performance.

Shirley Jones won in the Supporting Category, so it's fair that her part should be brief but memorable.

Your arguments about the role/spoiler won me over so back to talking about these upcoming release titles.
