Has anyone been checking out Samsung's newer 4K displays, such as the UN65HU7250, UN65HU8700, or the UN65HU855? (Who makes up those numbers...man!) Anyway, I have been looking at these models at Best Buy and other dealers and pic quality looks pretty awesome to me, but I'm sure they would look much better and more natural with proper calibration. I have even been thinking about selling my beloved Pioneer Plasma (KRP600M), which I have owned since 2009, to get into one of these. Would that be a mistake at this point? Thanks!

Sam. Thanks for the links and now I'm wondering if anyone besides Sound and Vision has reviewed some of these new Samsung models. Does anyone here at the forum do display reviews? Guess I'll have to look.

I picked up my Samsung UD55F9000 55" UHD TV at Best Buy Magnolia for $3,200. This tv upgraded my Sony 50" Wega rear projection HDTV that as actually native 720p. It is feed by an HD Direct TV box, Toshiba HD-DVD player and a Denon 1611UD bluray player and in between is a Pioneer Elite 7.1 SC-05 receiver. One of the features I really liked beyond the really nice picture is the fact that the HDMI connections are not hard sodered into the back of the tv! You have a one connect that sits under the tv where you can plug in multiple HDMI's and USB devices with a master cable that attaches to the UHD TV. It is a smart tv but I have to admit that I have not hooked it up to the network and currently have no plans to hook it up that way. My bluray collection looks great on this tv and even my old dvd collection looks better for what they are. While there may be many people that do not need more than 1080p IMHO the 4K format will offer a lot in terms of picture quality for those who are really into movies! UHD 4K bluray players are expected in retail stores by the end of 2015 and there will also be 4K native movies as well. Speaking for myself I do not see wanting to go beyond 4K and I would hope that 4K becomes the standard that sticks for some time, and when I say some time I mean 20+ years! I would love to set up a 4K projector with a 160" screen that would be on my wish list! But for now any available funds are going into a Dolby Atmos upgrade!

Samsung 55F9000 IMHO has a very crisp and detailed picture with a really nice amount of depth of picture and really good inky blacks. This tv does a great job dispying bluray movies and HD content if you have a good source for tv like Direct TV, Dish Network or Verizon Fios TV. There are alot of good built in apps if you want a smart tv but if you don't use the apss don't feel bad because IMHO at this moment the Samsung is one of the best UHD tv's on the market.

I'm not even LOOKING at a 4KTV, Samsung or otherwise, until Best Buy changes their obnoxiously (and fatally?) condescending ad:

Yes, nothing boosts big-ticket sales for an emerging technology like implying to your customers' faces that they're naive, dimwitted, gullible morons fit only for ridicule.
(Oh, wait, this is 4K...Never mind. :P )

From what I read, Japan is already developing 8K so I wouldn't count on 4K having that kind of longevity.

8K could be useful for comercial cinema but at this point in time why would it be accepted for home use. I think it would be wreckless to try and talk consumers into a format that is overkill for the average screen size most people have in there homes. I can justify 4K but I do not think I honestly do not care to much about rushing to 8K. Can you imagine the technical requirements for 8K in the home? I don't think it is even feasible to bring it forward as a consumer product. And there is no way people are going to be able to stream 8K content IMHO. And what would 8K be used for? They should push for 4K and IMHO 4K media should be the focus for at least the next 10 - 16 years! I feel 4K is going to be tough enough to sell to the average consumer but jumping to 8K is doomed to fail IMHO. Beside at what would be the min screen size to really take advantage of 8K? 200" screen? What bit rate and color space would make it to where people would care about it and that is not even getting into how large the files would be for the average movie in 8K. To rap it up 4K will have a difficult time and forget 8K for the foreseeable future.

As far as I am concerned 4K is it for me! That is far as I want to go and I am willing to upgrade my video chain to 4K but that is where I end it! I want to see one or two places before I am to old to see them and enjoy traveling. After the costly upgrade to 4K and Dolby Atmos it will be time to save up to go to Germany!
