$30 for the single-disc Blu??? No thanks Amazon! Hopefully prices will drop before release day, otherwise I'll be shopping elsewhere.

Why does it feel like Amazon is still punishing Disney and/or people who want to order Disney discs?

This poor guy's Army career, I swear! Where is Major America, or even Lieutenant Colonel America? Leftenant T.H Lawrence (of Arabia) was promoted Major for the capture of Akaba, and just a year later promoted Lieutenant Colonel for another "brilliant feat of arms"... and yet poor Captain America, who "easily" put down Hydra and Red Skull during World War II, "merely" commanded an elite strike force that neutralized an alien invasion of the United States of America, and then "happened" to uncover an incredible decades-long conspiracy against the entire world while also "half-handedly" stopping the Winter Soldier... is still just Captain! Give the man a promotion!

It's because Marvel is popular and people are willing to pay that much. I ordered mine through the Disney Movie Club and only paid $15 and that included the 3D disc.

I don't think that's it. DeepDiscount is significantly cheaper for both this title and Agents of SHIELD (which streets the same day). Amazon isn't exactly playing fair.

Since Maleficent and Million Dollar Arm aren't available to pre-order, I don't think anything has been worked out. They're just taking pre-orders on Captain America because it's coming out in a week and it was a huge hit.

This is the same basic situation when Amazon wouldn't allow pre-orders on Warner titles but then on the day of release, they'd buckle and sell them. With Captain America, Amazon is just allowing pre-orders a week early because they know that they're the ones that will lose out on sales. And once the Best Buy and Target ads come out this weekend, Amazon will match the lowest price.

Wheeling and dealing with an obviously money-hungry studio like Disney must've been a real b**ch. Poor Amazon
For once, I'm rooting for Disney. Since Amazon is too greedy to take actually carry through on their threats of not selling their product, it looks like Disney is winning.

This was a big part of the reason I said screw it and ordered the UK version, which I've had in my possession for weeks. Amazon.com and Disney both have really screwed up with a lot of American BD releases this year, and it's simply not tolerable. If they wish to act like petulant children, then I won't support them here.

Right now, the Target one (with the additional content) seems to be leading at $19.99, per their upcoming print ads. (Maybe a few bucks above some other site but at least there's no shipping charge.)

I'm not quite sure on the logic behind this, as ordering the title from Amazon UK means Amazon and Disney still get your money :)

Still, it's true that Amazon UK is the way to go for this film. I have it in my cart (final order is pending a few other releases), but it's been a static £11.66 (excl. VAT) for a while now, equating to $19.00US. If you don't have the first movie, a Double Pack of both Captain America films is also available for £15.83 (excl. VAT) = $26.11. Both are marked as region free.

I'll order from Target with my Redcard, save 5% and get free shipping. Screw Amazon on this one.

Yes, my grievance is with Amazon.com and Disney in the States. Amazon EU S.a.r.L. (the division of the company that handles Amazon sites in Europe) has always been very good to me, especially with VAT removal and competitive shipping prices (country to country). Likewise, Disney has put out superior editions internationally this year, as well.

I have no delusions about where the money finally goes, but it gets there via better people.

Add shipping to the U.S. (I realize you're in Australia) and the price goes up to over $25. All of a sudden not such a good deal. For us folks in America it looks like Target has the best price on this title right now.

It's $22.98 now and I expect it to drop even more between now and the release date. The 3-D two disc is now $27.98

I went the route of Disney Movie Club for the 2D for about $17.50 shipped.

Sean,

Could you elaborate as to what is different with the UK release in terms of Extras?

I am planning on going the "Target" route since they are offering the 3D/2D combo for $19.99, and it also includes a bonus disc containing "Behind the Lens - The Making of Captain America: The Winter Soldier".
