I could not agree more. This is my number one choice from Warner. Maybe Warner archives will come through. I thought we would never see the likes of GREAT RACE --WIND AND LION ---GYPSY, but we did. I hope we can get all the 70mm productions on blu. The roadshows are a very special breed that need to be seen in their best possible format. Are you listening Fox---TODD-AO of DOCTOR DOLITTLE ---STAR! Sony---LORD JIM---[SUPER PANAVISION 70] FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE --[ULTRA-PANAVISION 70.] I would even love to see a TODD-AO transfer of AIRPORT , but Universal will never do it. I saw AIRPORT at the Radio City Music Hall and it was very impressive in TODD-AO.

I would love to have this in Blu-ray also. The photography is awesome and I have not seen this incredible cinematography since it's release. The Blu would be incredible.

The 2 Disc DVD is one of the best looking SD transfers out there. It looks much better that a lot of recent films on DVD. So a Blu-ray should be spectacular.

DOCTOR DOLITTLE is already is already on bluray. FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE fell badly at the box office. It was ,in my opinion, one of the most tedious 70mm films that I ever saw.

Out of all the movies I love that haven't come out on Blu-ray yet, "Ryan's Daughter" is my #1 choice. A film so spectacular in sight and sound deserves nothing less than the best possible home video presentation.
I agree - it is truly spectacular in sight and sound.. A pity that is was also one of David Lean's lesser efforts. It did move ever so slowly.

The German release of DOLITTLE is very poor. I saw this film when it first came out in TODD-AO and a proper transfer would be amazing. Yes, FORE was a mess , but it would be interesting to see the grand sets in Ultra Panavion 70

Germany is not the only country to release DOLITTLE on bluray.

I believe "Lord Jim" is out on BRD in France.

"Fall of the Roman Empire" is available in Europe on Blu-Ray (locked for Region B). I made the mistake of buying it a couple of years ago; PQ was substandard to the point of unwatchable. Speaking of Samuel Bronston-produced 70MM epics, "55 Days at Peking" was released in Europe on Blu-Ray earlier this year---PQ is splendid. I have the version that was released in France (English subtitles can be removed) and it was not region locked.

I agree that the HDX version of "Ryan's Daughter" available on Vudu is stellar; it's worth renting for the visuals alone. If only the story was more compelling...

I am not familiar with this - if you buy it can/must it then be stored on some proprietary device?

I've never seen it! I just didn't fancy it when it came out. But I'd buy a Blu-ray, esp. after reading all about the making of it in Kevin Brownlow's great Biography of David Lean. In the seventies there was an electrician where I was working (in a film lab) who'd been on the crew on Ryan's Daughter, & had made so much money on it, he bought a house outright in London with some of his earnings.
