Anyone else turned off of certain actors because of personal preferences? (1 Viewer)

If I am really honest, there are actors I really have a hard time stomaching. A lot of this has to do with personal preferences...certain physical qualities that each of us finds undesirable (ears too big, plucked eyebrows, whatever). This is an essentially anonymous forum, so I'm interested in what other members' real feelings are about this.

For example: I can't stomach Shia LeBeouf. Can't really account for it, just can't stand him. He seems to be a really arrogant prick in real life, but even on screen, I find his presence brings CRYSTAL SKULL down a notch. I don't watch Michael Bay movies, but can only assume he is the same in THE TRANSFORMERS.

I have zero tolerance for Norma Shearer. Just a personal thing, I guess, but I just can't stand her, and own no movies that include her (in a collection of nearly 4,000 movies).

Leslie Howard. Just find him insufferable. I own GONE WITH THE WIND, and try to ignore him . I would never own his version of ROMEO AND JULIET (co-starring the above-mentioned Norma Shearer), as both actors are too old for their parts, and I can't stand them anyway. I'd like to own PYGMALION, but the Howard casting holds me back.

Has anyone else these (probably silly) prejudices against certain actors?

No is my short answer, i can separate the real life from the role and potentially* enjoy most films regardless of the actors in them.

*I say potentially because the script and other factors do come into play but i try to enjoy a film, you bring up Crystal Skull, to me that film was disappointing and not because of Shia, i liked the first half but found the second half a bit lazy and the conclusion felt rushed, oh and John Hurt had nothing worthwhile to do other than sit about and wait to be rescued, he had nothing to do in the film, a waste of a good actor.

I will refuse to watch a Jack Black or Adam Sandler movie.Dislike both these talentless actors.
I agree on Adam Sandler, unless he's part of an ensemble.About Jack Black.School of RockIt makes up for all the utter stupidity.Who can I not stand? Woody Allen.Nothing to do with being with his former step-child.I don't watch many of his movies. I'd watch them all if he wasn't in them.He is not an actor. Stay behind the camera.

No, but there are certain actors that I know that I need to lower my expectations in order to enjoy the movie. Keanu Reeves is up there. Cuba Gooding Jr is another.

As for Norma Shearer, I enjoy her more as a silent actress. She became a little better at sound acting around the late 30's/early 40's (Escape (1940) wasn't too bad), but never quite had same impact as her silent days.

Matthew Broderick. I think he absolutely sucks the life out of anything he is in. Even Ferris Bueller is only good because of the supporting cast.

Adam Sandler. When you think about the great comics of the past and the talent they brought to the screen, it just baffles me they let this guy continue to make movies.

Jim Carrey? My first encounter with his comedic skills was in a movie that included his famous “talking butt” shtick. Thus ended any further video contact with the actor(?).

Kirk Cameron: personal beliefs aside, I never liked him to begin with

Jennifer Aniston: Forget Gwyneth Paltrow, she's the ultimate beneficiary of undeserved nepotism; soap opera actor John Aniston is her father and Telly Savalas was her godfather. While you're at it, throw in her five costars on that sitcom she was in (and no, I don't mean that four-episode thing she did with Mayim Bialik).

Ashton Kutcher: I can't stand dudebro culture and thus have no use for him. When I read he was getting married to Mila Kunis, I thought to myself "Don't do it, Mila!" and she didn't. Remember how his marriage to Demi Moore ended?

There was something about Shia LeBoeuf I always disliked, but I couldn't put my finger on it until his incident at the revival of Cabaret.

Mel Gibson: I'm not Jodie Foster, so I'm not forgiving him. And his singing voice in Pocahontas was marginal at best.

Not a fan of Adam Sandler or Will Ferrell. I don't find either of them funny at all. Nor do I care for Tom Cruise - - he is the same in every movie. My wife laughs at one of my rules: if a movie has a cast member from the TV show Friends, it will probably suck. I have just a few exceptions - - Band of Brothers and Office Space come to mind. But neither are enhanced by theirs Friends cast member - - the films are just too good to be ruined by them.

Dare i mention the name Kiera Knightley?
I had to re-edit my copy of Love Actually to remove all her scenes! Can't stand her ...
And my wife won't watch anything with Clark Gable or Spencer Tracy ... except Bad Day at Black Rock. I don't mind the latter actually; he was excellent in Capains Courageous!

I detest Matthew Modine because he had an "air" of being extremely smug when he was younger. I mean, it's something in his face. Most conceited people in my life look like him, I guess.

Willem Dafoe is a valuable actor, for sure, but honestly, he's so darn ugly it makes me wince. Kevin Bacon, too.

Comedians like Adam Sandler (and his dumb face), Will Ferrel, Ben Stiller and Jack Black get on my nerves without fail. They just aren't likable - on the contrary, they're annoying as hell. It has something to do with their attitude as much as their looks.

Spare a thought for us poor Brits, i can still call myself that until September 18th, we have to put up with Kevin Bacon every advert break advertising mobile/cell phones, those ads annoy me so much i even forget the carrier he is promoting in the ads.

I'll personally give Ben Stiller and Jack Black some leeway because i thought Tropic Thunder was hilarious.

I don't know these people, and they are just there to do a job for me: act. I don't allow myself to get involved with shallow trivialities of how someone looks, something they really can't help; can any of us. If someone gives a bad performance, I will give them a second shot. Heck, I thought Elizabeth Taylor wasn't very good in Raintree County. I do find myself avoiding obviously bad movies such as the Sandler flicks, because he really seems to have been on cruise control the last 10 years or so. I haven't seen Shia LeBeouf much, but I didn't think he was bad in Crystal Skull. Norma Shearer was a sweetheart in real life, and struggled with her crossed eyes, even spending much on muscle therapies to try to control it. She even lost out on a shot at playing Scarlett O'Hara, because the public said no way would they accept Scarlett with crossed eyes, that must have hurt. She was great in Marie Antoinette. Matthew Broderick was good in Glory, you have to give him that. The others mentioned, I could take or leave, but I won't avoid a film because of them.

Second question: how many people, such as myself, don't agree with ANY of the other posts in this topic? Just goes to show the variety of preference :)
