HiI am currently trying to set up a simple home theatre system in our loft.

I currently have an Optoma HD131Xe projector and a LG BH7430P home cinema system.

Due to our house having a gable roof and the layout of our loft, I have been limited on where I have mounted the projector screen. It is currently mounted on one of the beams that supports the roof.

At either end of the room, I was going to have the projector facing the screen from behind the seats, and the bluray system behind the screen (this is currently suspended in mid air when lowered), this will allow the speakers to be put in place easily when used. The rear speakers are connected to a wireless unit.

The problem I am having is whether to:

1. Run a long HDMI cable from either ends of the loft from the bluray player to the projector, both would be fixed in place in units. Or is there a device that will allow steaming between both units either over a WIFI network or some other way.

2. Have the projector and bluray player both at the rear of the area (short HDMI), and look to use longer cabling for the speakers.

3. Is it possible to reverse the speaker system easily, where the normal wireless rear speakers would be used as the front speakers and the vice versa with the wired connected speakers.

As you can tell I am a newbie to all this and hopefully will be able to improve this system over time.

Thanks
John

1. Long HDMI cables are about $30 to $50 from Monoprice. I searched on "wireless HDMI" and had hundreds of hits. There's a few at Amazon for around $250.
2. This is how I have my room set up. All of the equipment is at the back of the room. The remote (Harmony 880) is powerful enough to bounce off the front wall and still control almost everything. The few items that have a weak IR receiver, I just know when to point the remote backwards.
3. Not that I know of.

There is no option 2 here. HTiB don't have enough power to cover longer speaker wire runs than the wire they came with.Your only options...Long HDMI and hope the signal reaches(how far, in cable, is this?)Wireless HDMI Cat extenders(best option)

Speaker wire is cheaper than HDMI and can do very long runs much easier than HDMI. I run a 20 or 25 foot Monoprice HDMI cable to my projector without problems, but many people have reported having difficulty getting a consistent signal at lengths of 40 feet or more. If by "long HDMI" you mean greater than 30 feet, I would opt for keeping the HT system and the projector close together so they can be connected with a relatively short HDMI cable, then get bulk speaker wire and run that wherever you need it. If 25 feet or less, then you can go with whatever option you prefer. Monoprice HDMI cables are high quality - if I needed a 25 footer, I'd probably go with this.

Edit: Just read Sam's post above. I'd take his word for it on the speaker wire option. Didn't realize the system was HTiB... they are a little light on the power capabilities.

Thanks for the replies. The loft is 8m long, so I'd think that 10m HDMI cable would be enough to hook up if I set it up like (1).Has anyone used a Wireless HDMI? The ones I have seen look to operate from a device like a PC or tablet to stream to the end device (projector or TV). If that's wrong please let me know as they may be a better option, especially if I could use them on a different TV around the house at a different time.Sorry for being a newbie, what do Cat Extenders do?Thanks again

Convert the HDMI signal to a different format to be sent over a pair of CAT 5, CAT 5e or CAT 6 cables. Where HDMI is limited to 30-75 feet depending on cable quality and other factors, extenders go well past 100 feet.

Read some of the reviews of the IOGEAR GW3DHDKIT on Amazon. If it were me, probably not. I don't have any issues with running wires in my house.

And there are single cat extenders.Yes, more expensive...but HDBaseT is on the horizon. Commercial projectors already have it.
