The cover is a re-purposing of the 1961 re-issue poster. ( Somewhat appropriate, since the current Blu-ray edition uses art from the original release. )Will Krupp said:FOUR discs? What could possibly be on FOUR discs?
I'll admit I'm intrigued... (that COVER art, though...poor Danny Kaye...yikes!)
So I gotta ask...who had it out for Danny in 1961?Rob W said:The cover is a re-purposing of the 1961 re-issue poster. ( Somewhat appropriate, since the current Blu-ray edition uses art from the original release. )
Here it says 2 discs. 1 Bluray and 1 DVD:Will Krupp said:FOUR discs? What could possibly be on FOUR discs?

I would trust more this than amazon.
Yes, Rosemary Clooney was under contract to Columbia, which wouldn't permit her to appear on the "White Christmas" 'original cast soundtrack album', which was being prepared by Decca. Clooney went on to record her own album of the "White Christmas" songs at Columbia, with her own sister, Betty Clooney, joining her for the "Sisters" duet.davidmatychuk said:I'll get it too, just like every other version since the widescreen laserdisc, but the one version that this new edition doesn't make redundant is the one Starbucks sold exclusively in the States in 2006. It was the same DVD originally issued by Paramount, encased in a cardboard outer sleeve with a booklet about Christmas movies, and a CD of the original 10-song movie soundtrack of freshly recorded versions of the movie songs, with Trude Stevens credited for the Vera-Ellen parts (that I understand she did in the film) and Peggy Lee replacing Rosemary Clooney's contractually-unavailable performances. It's otherwise unavailable, and I'm thrilled to have it. Come to think of it, the Blu-Ray of "Holiday Inn" that Universal is putting out won't have the wonderful soundtrack CD in their 3-disc version of the DVD, so colour me doubly-thrilled, I guess.
It wasn't unusual at that time when artists had recording contracts on a different label than the soundtrack. Decca released the soundtrack to There's No Business Like Show Business with Dolores Gray subbing for Marilyn Monroe's vocals. There was an extended play release of the Guys And Dolls soundtrack which rather than replace him, eliminated all Frank Sinatra's vocals because he was under contract to Capitol records. The Valley Of The Dolls soundtrack had its theme song re-recorded with Dory Previn since Dionne Warwick was under contract to another label. Not film related but In a truly bizarre move, RCA released the "original" cast album of Call Me Madam without its star Ethel Merman who was under contract to Decca so Dinah Shore subbed for Merman on the cast album.classicmovieguy said:Yes, Rosemary Clooney was under contract to Columbia, which wouldn't permit her to appear on the "White Christmas" 'original cast soundtrack album', which was being prepared by Decca.
