What a dame! She is back with Bogey now, I'm sure.

She will be sadly missed. I saw her twice on stage including on Broadway in the musical WOMAN OF THE YEAR.

I'm up in the air about which LB film I should watch tonight in her honour - so many in my collection that I love... "Dark Passage", "Designing Woman", "How to Marry a Millionaire", "Blood Alley", "Written on the Wind"... I've had a hankering for "... Millionaire" for a while, though, so I think I'll be spinning that. :)

Hard to believe I've never seen BLOOD ALLEY. But at least I have the DVD.

She was certainly one of the greats. And she had a great run, too. I'll never forget that last Oscar ceremony where she was up for THE MIRROR HAS TWO FACES and Juliet Binoche won for THE ENGLISH PATIENT and Binoche was so surprised and blurted out, "I thought Lauren would get it" and they cut to Lauren in the audience looking none too pleased.

I first saw her in FLAME OVER INDIA when I was a child, but I was too young to know who the actors were, but it was a damn good movie. The next current film of hers I saw on the big screen was MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS. In between I saw several of her movies on TV and a couple in revival theaters: TO HAVE AND HAVE NOT and THE BIG SLEEP.

For years, it was generally believed that a teenage Andy Williams dubbed her singing voice in TO HAVE AND HAVE NOT, but that's been debunked. Here's what IMDB says:
Andy Williams states in his biography that his voice (at age 14) is the one actually used for Lauren Bacall singing "How Little We Know". But according to author Eric Lax, Bacall did her own singing, after researching studio call sheets.
She sings in THE BIG SLEEP also.

I'd go with THE BIG SLEEP as my favorite film of hers.

KEY LARGO is without question the one I love most. I enjoyed her in a "softer" role than what she often played. It was perfect for what Bogart, Barrymore and Robinson were bringing.

This is turning into a rough week, to be sure. :(

Wasn't she doing tv commercials for Tuesday Morning stores not that long ago?
