I would love this to have Dolby Atmos Audio as I heard in the Cinema.
It would be fantastic if this was one of the first Atmos titles. The theatrical mix was supposed to be an excellent demonstration of the 3D sonic benefits of Atmos.

HAIL CAESAR! THE LEGENDARY FRANCHISE UNLEASHES ITS MOST INTENSE BATTLE YET
dawn.jpg

Caesar Leads the Charge into Your Living Room with
Ground-Breaking Special Effects on Digital HD™ November 11,
3D Blu-ray™, Blu-ray™ and DVD December 2
Planet of the Apes: Caesar’s Warrior Collection Adds to the Strong Holiday Gift Line up for this Holiday
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (September 30, 2014) – Get ready for worlds to collide like never before! Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment takes you to the center of the battle between apes and humans with DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES 3D Blu-ray™, Blu-ray™ and DVD on December 2 and on Digital HD™ November 11. The film quickly became the highest grossing film in the franchise, netting nearly $680 million at the box office*, and the most critically acclaimed blockbuster of the summer**.
Gary Oldman, Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke and Keri Russell star in this thrilling next chapter of The Planet of the Apes. It is 2026, and humanity has been pushed to near extinction by a deadly virus. When a group of survivors desperate to find a new source of power travel into the woods near San Francisco, they discover a highly evolved community of intelligent apes led by Caesar (Andy Serkis). The two species form a fragile peace but dissention grows and the groups find themselves hurtling toward all-out war. Fans and critics flocked to the film, with The Hollywood Reporter raving that “In the annals of sequels, Dawn is to Rise of the Planet of the Apes what The Empire Strikes Back was to Star Wars—it's that much better.“
With approximately two hours of special features, the DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES Blu-ray will make a perfect holiday gift for any action film fans. The Blu-ray is jam-packed with behind-the-scenes footage and deleted scenes, including intimate interviews with Andy Serkis on how he masterfully created Caesar and inside looks at the secrets of the relationship between man and apes.
For an even more immersive experience in the world of the apes, fans have to get the Planet of the Apes: Caesar’s Warrior Collection. Witness the battle for world domination between ape and man with both Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes on Blu-ray and Digital HD™ on December 2. The collection comes in a limited-edition, fiercely lifelike replica bust of Caesar wearing his tribal war paint, designed by WETA, the special effects masters responsible for bringing Caesar to life on film. This must-own set includes an all-new 32-page booklet "Planet of the Apes: Building an Icon" that explores WETA's creation of the Caesar replica, four battle-ready ape collectible character cards and more than 5 hours of special features.

Atmos is just another gimmick like EX-ES. I'm not surprised Fox doesn't want to jump on the home bandwagon yet.

Fortunately, you are incorrect. Atmos is a very, very capable immersive format in both the theater and at home as long as the mixers utilized the tools at their disposal well. That can be said for any soundtrack, whether it be 5.1 or 7.1 too.

Shame no Dolby Atmos.
DTS said that their new, as yet unnamed (probably under NDA's), consumer 3D audio format set to compete with Atmos is on schedule to be included in some of these Atmos enabled products early 2015 as a firmware update and as a regular item in next year's lineup. DTS's MDA rendering package is now showing up in audio post houses too. They are not going to be calling the consumer version DTS-UHD anymore.

If their open language, object based 3D format is easier and cheaper to implement than Atmos, it may be that Fox might choose to go the DTS route.

Very hard to say right now. We'll probably know a lot more at CES in January.

Anything which enhances the home cinema experience is not what i'd call a gimmick, Dolby Atmos has great potential, your comment reminds me of those folks back in the thirties when colour film was introduced to the world, they called it a gimmick, i daresay when sound was introduced with The Jazz Singer it was also called a gimmick, i have often heard 3D pop out called a gimmick too, this movie doesn't have any, it doesn't even have good depth, i'll view it in 2D.

Oh God, I love this movie. And I'm loving the Blu-ray, too. Matt Reeves barely pauses for breath during his 2+ hours of commentary. What a maniac. Training parkour guys to climb like apes so they can be mo-capped? Burning down the ape village for real to avoid a CGI look?

Gloriously, gloriously crazy.

This is on my Christmas list (fingers crossed), otherwise I'll buy it - really enjoyed it in theaters and I have a feeling I'll like it even more the second time.
