Is FTP Hosting as Cloud Storage for Media Streaming Legal? (1 Viewer)

Various web hosting and domain services offer unlimited storage for their FTP servers. One of them is GoDaddy, who offers unlimited storage as web hosting for $4.49 per month. FTP can be used to store lots of things, including files stored on the server that are hidden to the general public. I want to have a personal folder on the unlimited GoDaddy FTP storage that is labeled "Jordan's Cloud Storage", yet they are files are never put on the official website or shown to anyone, they're private. Files contained in Jordan's Cloud Storage will contain movies and TV shows that are owned by other studios and production companies, but it will also contain production documents and footage from my own production company, 3Point Animation. The question I want to ask is, is it legal to have a video file of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hosted on the unlimited FTP storage from GoDaddy? I will not in any way create a file sharing site.

I'm not an attorney, so I don't give legal advice, but I think you are only asking for trouble posting copies of movies on FTP sites even if the site is private.

I just assume that any ftp site can be hacked, regardless of how "private" and secure it is. (Even if the ftp site is using a different unofficial port number).

A much more secure way of dealing with data storage, is to have several external hard drives and flash drives used for primary/secondary/tertiary backups.

You could always upload encrypted rar files and stream through those.
